It's possible to do a non-reactionary critique of the current landscape of humanities research funding: www.insidehighered.com/opinion/view...
Does humanities research matter anymore? (opinion)
The rapid collapse in available research funding is one crisis in the humanities we aren’t talking enough about, Asheesh Kapur Siddique writes.

Doctors say children should be vaccinated. This ketamine-addicted CBS News contributor says they shouldn't. For busy parents, it can be hard to know who to trust.
the thing is that none of these guys are actually going to do anything more than sit behind a screen they're not going to do any raping and pillaging, that's not even the "reward" what they get off to is talking about how much they would hypothetically rape and pillage on the internet
I pledge allegiance, to the profits, of the corporations and puppets of America. And to the stakeholders, who all demand, one monopoly, under cis white male God, divisible unevenly among the empowered, for injustice and slavery for all.
It’s almost like green energy is the only way forward and a handful of oil barons are doing everything in their power to keep that from happening so they can get even richer at the cost of literally everything else in the world.
Wall Street’s biggest banks made more money financing green projects than they did from working with fossil fuel companies for a fourth straight year, even as they faced ongoing pressure to pull back from the business
Did you know Scottish generators pay the highest charges in Europe to connect to the grid, while English plants get subsidized? We are penalized for producing green energy. It is a rigged system designed to keep our energy cheap for London and expensive for us.
Why did BS stories like the John Kerry swiftboating and Obama birtherism get into major media? Because news bosses wanted to show their “fairness.” I know this because I edited the Chicago Tribune’s first story on Obama’s birth certificate. We didn’t want to touch it. The higher-ups made us. 9/10 🧵
One of the most successful propaganda campaigns of our time is the right-wing claim that liberals dominate the media. The right has pushed this myth for decades on Fox and other outlets. You know about it because RIGHT-WING MEDIA HAVE A HUGE MEGAPHONE. My thread. 1/10 🧵
"sorry, this opening has been filled"
LinkedIn dating is gonna drop soon right ??
Nothing horrifies me more than the thought of walking for no reason
this is like some old man posting but i’m feeling a little under the weather today and so my exercise this morning is just a long walk and you know what activity rocks? taking a walk.
and I hate to say it, but I feel like most of us on bluesky are the outliers with our aversion to it 🥴 at least from what I’ve seen on other apps (namely IG and Tiktok), wayyy more people have seemed to embrace it
I think the weirdest thing about AI usage has been seeing how quickly people are willing to surrender themselves to it like that desire to offload every mental challenge, any need for validation, every single curiosity is channeled through it
They done finally laid Duolingo to rest
Had to go back to get proof
obviously plenty of other things should have already been disqualifying but people willing to defy Trump publicly and appeal to decency as their reason for doing so both seem pretty good
h/t @adamwren.bsky.social Michael Bohacek, a Republican state senator from Indiana who has a daughter with down syndrome, says he will vote against redistricting in Indiana after Trump used the word "retarded."
Was that chip deal or this tariff break a credible decision made in the national interest, or a finagle made in Donald Trump’s self-interest? Was it both? Who knows
In Washington, everything appears to be for sale
And the government has given up on prosecuting corruption

Pop quiz! Who wrote this book? Is it a) a random guy b) the current minister of finance in Brazil
Watched The Blackening last night for the first time... it was SO good. I'm very much a comedy over horror girlie, so it was right up my alley. It's not just your typical parody. Incredibly well done 🙂↕️
im sorry you cant have food but we gave all our money to one guy who “invented” 2 day shipping and another thats promising robot butlers so you can see how our hands are tied
Do you ever think about how weird it is that one of your adult friends is randomly a person in whose body you once lived?
it's crazy that if you're a cat, your only two life outcomes are eating out of a trash can or getting treated like a little baby
Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

I mean so what if bluesky is a retirement home for people who’ve been online too long, we get our little bingo nights & whatever popping.
worth applying to politics as well. when you're criticizing an action people take "taking the better action next time" is only one of the alternatives people will consider, and worth remembering that "not bothering at all" is another.
I think about this a lot.
dear US friends, when a sitting president (re)builds the seat of government, it almost always means the president has no intention of leaving at the end of term. your African friends with decades of experience
It’s hard to convey just how much Chicagoans are mobilizing against ICE. Don’t want to downplay the harm, or make it seem like a fair fight. But in neighborhoods across this city, ICE is getting chased by people blowing whistles and shouting. People are running TOWARD ICE to protect their neighbors.
No need for gloom and doom. There’s more of us (humans who aren’t monsters) than them (demons).
I really think people are underestimating the degree to which 21st century politics are going to be apocalyptically bad; we are collectively sliding towards mass ethnic cleansing being the norm in the Western World, out of no reason but pure fucking spite and empty nostalgia.
