A decade ago, Facebook was so worried about rising misinformation that it paid various news outlets to hire writers specifically tasked with publishing Snopes-like fact-checks. Today, the company is leaping into bed with a purveyor of misinformation to toy with a tool known for getting facts wrong.

The top part of a Newsmax press release dated 28 July 2026 headlined "Newsmax and Meta Enter AI Content Partnership." (NYSE:NMAX) ("Newsmax" or the "Company") announced today that the Company has entered into an AI content partnership with Meta Platforms ("Meta"). Under the agreement, Meta will have access to Newsmax's digital news content. Meta will be able to draw upon Newsmax's significant current reporting as well as archived content across its platforms to support AI queries across Meta's apps and devices. "Newsmax applauds the significant resources Meta is putting into AI to keep America at the forefront of this emerging technology," commented Chris Ruddy, CEO of Newsmax. "We are pleased to work with Meta to help ensure users have access to timely, high-quality journalism through AI technologies."

Witnesses and questioners alike, and both supporters and opponents of Chinese exclusion, universally agreed that exclusion was meant to benefit the White race and White laborers. White supremacist "race science" tracts were submitted as "evidence" for the hearings.

Q. All things then being equal, which do you prefer to see advanced in material prosperity as well as in morals and civilization, the white race or the Chinese race?-A. The white race. As white and black are apparent opposites, and science shows the white race to be superiorly developed, it is fair to presume that primitive man was black; subsequent nations, brown; their branches, red; from these sprang the yellow, and thence the white. Under local changes of atmospherical and physical conditions of climate, food, &c., the original black became modified to a permanent brown. In like manner one shade and color after another became permanently established. As with complexion, so also with stature, symmetry, and strength. Proper use develops, while disuse brings decay. 5. That the Chinese work for less wages than white men, and the price paid for Chinese labor will not support white labor; for it will be shown that the cost of living for an individual Chinaman is from fifteen to twenty cents per day; an amount insufficient to keep a white laborer from starvation. They live upon the cheapest food, often the very offal and filth from slaughter-houses, and frequently upon diseased meat. They pay no taxes, or comparatively none; have no families, and since from fifteen to twenty Chinese will occupy a room insufficient in size for the accommodation of a white family of four persons-husband, wife, and two small children-they pay no rents. Their living is thus so much cheaper in all respects than white labor, that they find it is impossible to compete with it. Thus we shall endeavor to show and prove that competition with Chinese labor is impossible, unless our white laboring class shall abandon their social habits, renounce their wives and children, and degrade themselves to the level of the Chinese. This applies to all trades and occupations.

It is a wonder how these things have gotten more complicated, not less. At the same time technology should make this easier, universities have become more bureaucratic. Universities ask faculty a precise allocation of their time on different projects, but also treat that time as having zero value.
