Today was the longest Planning Commission meeting I've ever been part of - we started at 9am & adjourned shortly after 5pm. Thanks to the Commissioners, City staff, and especially members of the public who spent their day w/ us, in person or virtually.

Stacy Lake knocked on our door today (in this heat!) and she's got my vote. Knowledgeable and NOT a one issue candidate. We talked about transportation, property taxes, & home ownership. Let's get some *good* leadership in this election! @stacylakemo.bsky.social
Real talk. They don't care if he tears this place down to the studs, as long as he hunts brown people, demonizes queer people, and erases Black people.
Should I get this shirt to wear for class #1 of Professional Practice this fall?

If we had taken all the money we put into AI and put it into trains, we would have such great trains. What a waste.

Pro tip for my development friends: when a woman gives you clear direction about your application, you can follow it or ask for clarification. Complaining to her male subordinates is not the way.
KC built environment nerds, this is very much a work in progress but I've started tracking whether identified buildings/houses in the 1940 tax photos have been demolished and we've got them displayed on a map: kc1940.org/buildings/de...

Are we ready yet to admit that the public servants in our government are subject matter experts? And that subject matter experts can't all be replaced by content creators?
The thing I miss most about President Biden is the feeling of waking up in the morning and NOT needing to brace myself for what absolutely shitty thing has happened.
The next time you're evaluating a city council candidate, pay attention to how they treat staff in public meetings. These are public servants with domain expertise that have dedicated their lives to making their cities better and they are so often dismissed or treated with contempt.
Publicly supporting women is nice, but what really matters is what men do behind closed doors. What matters is how they hold each other accountable. The men’s hockey team shouldn’t get a pass because they were in the locker room—that’s where women need their support the most.
