Postdoc at Penn interested in memory, cognitive control, and most things in between.

New preprint! Posterior cingulate is often linked to memory in humans but decisions in monkeys yet there's little consensus about its functional neuroanatomy. We recorded LFPs+single units in humans during matched value and memory based decisions, finding convergence in dorsal, but not ventral, PCC.

New preprint! We show low arousal states promote hippocampal ripple genesis in sleep and wake. This bridges rodent work, where ripples predominate during sleep, with human studies reporting ripples during active behavior, identifying low arousal as a common mechanism www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Arousal state modulates human hippocampal ripples

Hippocampal ripples are transient, high-frequency oscillations linked to memory replay and consolidation. Ripples are well-characterized in rodents to occur during periods of behavioral inactivity (i....

We're recruiting postdocs to study how people build structured knowledge from experience & use it to act flexibly. Behavioral work, fMRI, computational & AI models, with a lifespan focus. You don't need experience with every method; fit & curiosity matter most. Please repost & share! 🧠

Preston Lab, University of Texas at Austin. Now recruiting 1–2 postdoctoral researchers in learning, memory, development, and flexible behavior. Methods: behavioral experiments, fMRI, computational modeling, and naturalistic stimuli. Apply with CV, research statement, and 3 references to apreston@utexas.edu. Photos show the lab group smiling together, members working at a table, and members at a celebration.

does brain connectivity drive spread of pathological proteins in Alzheimer’s disease? ✨ preprint: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... if the question intrigues you, please read on 🧵⤵️

My lab is hiring! We have an opening for a full-time RA to focus on computational modeling and fMRI analysis. Programming skills are required. Psych/cog/neuro experience not necessary but a big plus. A great fit for someone who wants lab experience before grad school. Details and job link below ⬇️

The $400M cuts to @columbiauniversity.bsky.social fit squarely into Trump's ongoing attacks on science and the academy. I don't believe that he is protecting Jews or has *anyone's* (except his own) best interests at heart. Everything about him screams Nazi and fascist. www.npr.org/2025/03/07/n...

For the Indy Star in Indiana 🏎️, VJ Rubenstein wrote about losing a generation to the cuts to science funding: “I know of multiple promising students who have questioned their decisions to pursue scientific careers. We are on the verge of losing a cohort of transformative young scientists.” 🧪🏠

I wrote about the harmful impacts of NIH funding cuts on the health and economy of Indiana. www.indystar.com/story/opinio...

🚨 🧠 We have a new preprint out where we studied which brain networks are engaged during mental imagery and self-generated thought. We used a precision fMRI approach along with multidimensional experience sampling (mDES) to get trialwise self-reports from each participant about what they imagined.
