Brandon points out one of the most vital skills for a manga letterer. Retouching art is something to approach in steps. Fully white out the JP text and isolate that area. Get the broad strokes like boundaries out of the way before doing any detail work.

Went to a small town comic shop with my partner @tempest2k.inhospitable.net for Batman day! Dug through some bargain bins and left with some Fortnite comics and a few issues of 52.

I did the Retouch Challenges from Sara Linsley's Manga Lettering Tutorials so that I have something to show for Manga when I put my portfolio together soon. I've been having a hard time finding sample pages or coming up with non-scanlation ways of practicing. github.com/saraoswald/l...

I'm about halfway through Piekos' book now and building a lot more confidence. I know I'll someday have done this all thousands of times, so its really about foundational knowledge.

So, How Does The Green Work, Anyway??? Working on the lettering (English text) for The Guy She Was Interested Wasn’t A Guy At All has been an interesting experience. I primarily work in black and white manga, or on rare occasions, full color.
