Doom 2016 is a fantastic game. It's also very buggy, repetitive, and imbalanced. It's a game that clearly comes after a tumultuous development and a studio really having to push themselves to do something incredible. I do not like the idea of id trying to one up Revelations with that team size.

Thank you all for the support this week.

While our studio was impacted, those changes were spread across teams. We still have the crew we need to build the games and tech we're known for. The team today is about the same size we were when making Doom 2016. We have always had a flat studio where everyone is a maker, and we will remain true to that philosophy moving forward.

We are focused on supporting each other and the team members impacted. We’re going to keep building the great games and tech that have defined us for the past 35 years, and we’re looking forward to seeing you at QuakeCon this August.

The SCREEN Act is not just another age-verification bill — it goes much further than anything passed at the state-level or in other countries. 1. The bill doesn't just target porn sites. It goes after *any* site that allows material "harmful" to minors. You'd have to scan your face to use Google.

do you think like 3000 years from now language will be unrecognizable enough that people will be doing like "Annotated Modernized Gleepglorp" versions of fucking Danganronpa and having discourse about which version is better like we do with the Odyssey and the Bible and stuff

HL2 beta is cool, the borealis is cool and 1984 is cool and all, but the more I think about it the more I like release HL2. It's weirdly upbeat for such a dark story and dystopian universe, yes. But in that way it's such an accessible and universal game, kind of the Star Wars of gaming.

Quake's combat is sooo much more fun than Duke's I'm sorry. The enemies in Duke and Quake both are more aggressive than Doom's, but Quake's are way more fun to fight because Quake understood you actually had to pair that aggressiveness with the player having snappier movement and combat abilities.

Screw whatever today's discourse is, time to dust off some 30 year old discourse: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEDP... Duke wins because: a) more fun, b) the Duke says stuff like I'VE GOT BALLS OF STEEL, c) highly interactive levels that look like actual places and not just brown, poorly lit geometry.

I can completely understand how games like Campaign Evolved come to be. You watch someone playing the game, and if they don't immediately understand something it feels REALLY BAD to watch that happen. Designers need to hold back on acting on that impulse though, otherwise you ruin the illusion.

found an evil really old doom sourceport that used quake's software renderer, it's got dlights and particles and stuff it's actually kinda fucked up

Land of Oracular Zeitgeist looks good based on the demo. Very fun and intense, and I love the Oz theming. So far it's not as hard as a Touhou game typically is because so much of it is about deflecting danmaku and going on the offensive rather than dodging. store.steampowered.com/app/4183180/...

Touhou Sousenkyou ~ Land of Oracular Zeitgeist on Steam

The Sousenkyou Battle Royale has hit the village's yellow brick roads! Strange things are happening behind the curtain. It's time for actors and stagehands to work hand-in-hand to find the real goals ...

I know this can't happen in the Avatar fighting game because multiplayer, but a game that only displays silhouettes of enemies on the ground or they make noise to replicate Toph's spatial awareness would be *neat* someday. You could have heartbeats and breathing affect the visuals.
