Been on my mind a lot in recent years: in education we tend to celebrate what is new—and it's good to try/experiment with new ideas, strategies, programs. But the second time you do a good thing, it is still a good thing. And the third time, fourth time, etc. Good is good.

You know who is fun to follow on social media during the World Cup? Historians. Enthusiastic fans who can provide an interesting story about a cultural exchange and/or war between the two countries that happened in the 17th century.
Great historical fiction abt #Brazil for the win! See Jungle of Ashes (Brynn Barineau). Set in #Fordlândia, Henry Ford's ill-fated company town. A well-researched, accessible coming-of-age read. Excited to share w/ students! @clahistorians.bsky.social @thewha.bsky.social @theherstorian.bsky.social
On June 6, 1944, Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy. As we approach the anniversary of D-Day, we're revisiting a 2016 #AHAPerspectives piece by Kevin Wagner on bringing the history of D-Day to life for one of his students.

Relatable!!!! (Said every author ever.)
The wild emotional swings between "this story is amazing" and "this story is shit and no one will read it" and "i never ever want to look at this again" and "if this gets me fired I suppose I could just garden all day."

Latest piece, on the joy of creating courses for and teaching history to lifelong learners. The average age of my sharp, curious, and (in many cases) globe-trotting seniors? 70. "We may be old," said one such student, "but we're not dead yet." #lifelonglearning
In #AHAPerspectives, Suzanne M. Litrel describes teaching history to students in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, “reaching out to older learners in a low-stakes environment, I’ve found, rekindles or even jump-starts their love of history.” 🗃️
In #AHAPerspectives, @drkyliesmith.bsky.social shares how she approaches teaching history to her nursing students. “Students need to learn a broad conception of history that explores the economic and political forces that shape their patients’ lives, as well as their own profession.” 🗃️
