Gabe: Sure! Anthology of the Killer is a surreal comedy horror walkaround game set in a world where murder is mainstream culture. Through it, you play as zine-writing college girl BB, as she tries to survive a modern world while its institutions collapse and its killers run at her with knives

Pages 3 & 4: Gabe talks at length his thoughts on Anthology of the Killer while holding his martini glass, Grace next to him points at him with a knife.

Gabe: Ever since playing it I couldn’t get it out of my head. The world is a mess, and we’re struggling to survive every day. I feel like AotK really sees that struggle, and gives a face to the new monsters we’re struggling against.

It puts a rubber mask on things like neo-moralism and consumer data, and lets you stare them in the eye and laugh in their faces. I think it’s a story that a lot of us could use at this point in history.

Of course it helps that Anthology of the Killer is a really fun and idiosyncratic piece of media!

It looks like a cartoon made in mspaint, and draws from political philosophy, the dark history of the Beach Boys, old weird bird paintings and Scrooge McDuck comics.

The resulting combination is something electrifying that reminds me of discovering Yume Nikki or playing Undertale when it first released.

And it makes me want to create! The game is art for art’s sake, and it wears its seams with pride.

The Anthology’s bonus tunnels show off a museum of the game’s own creation. From showcasing the stock assets used to the early materials, iterations and inspirations that went into it. It’s like it’s encouraging you to make something, like how BB writes her zines.

As a scientist logicboi who’s loved art but always been intimidated by the idea of making it, nothing has been more successful at driving me to try it than this game.

Anthology of the Killer is the kind of game that’s rewired my brain chemistry, and I want to share that experience with the world! I hope you’ll consider giving it a chance.
