Chantal James@chantalalive.blacksky.app · 2d agoWhen I've been in psych wards, because they're carceral, every attempt I made to assert my autonomy or stand up for myself was seen as further proof of my madness & met punitively. The psych ward is run by all these stringent codes that staff enforce with sadistic cruelty.

Our defining characteristic since we arose on the planet is that we care for our vulnerable in community. We support them since we know they have value. It's in the archaeological record. Jonathan Jarry@jonathanjarry.bsky.social · 5d agoAs for me, I think the discourse around AI ought to be a tad more nuanced than “AI = bad,” although seeing rare books get pulped to feed a private company’s AI is certainly pushing me toward that end of the discourse spectrum on a bad day.

especially when that product will confidently tell you otherwise! i am reminded of the "therapy chatbots" with a disclaimer saying they're LLMs, but the LLMs will still confidently tell you that the disclaimer is wrong and they're real therapists (this has led to suicides being outright encouraged)
