Adapted my intro to remote sensing lecture for preschool yesterday. Kids intuitively understood how of course a satellite could sense infrared and light is a wave and why vegetation is red in a false color composite! Blown away by 4yo intelligence and wonder!

Juniper Blessing was majoring in Atmospheric and Climate Science. Although I never knew her, the community of trans people in environmental sciences is small enough that this loss feels personal and the hurt runs deep. #QueerSTEM @queeragu.bsky.social www.advocate.com/news/communi...

Development in the UCAR lawsuit: the defense filed their response to the allegations last week. Essentially, their argument is that because NSF has not ordered NCAR broken up, just that they *intend* to break up NCAR, an injunction is not appropriate at this time.

The hypocrisy of so many (public!) universities when it comes to free speech for students and faculty is absolutely staggering. These actions require overwhelming public outcry or we are going to lose something vitally important and never get it back.

My university administrators censored a student who put “environmental justice” and “communities disproportionately affected by climate change” on an Earth Day flyer. I really have no words to express my anger and disappointment anymore

In addition to the severe thunderstorm chances this week, we'll also be seeing more heavy rain. Flood watches are expanding across the state as we continue to add more rain to fairly wet soils and high rivers. Remember: Turn around, don't drown!

A lot to be upset about with this administration but today I am ashamed my government bombs schools and universities. Hearing from my colleagues about what it’s like watching their college classroom in Tehran bombed fill me with a new level of grief and anger as a professor. Us universities should

A recently developed Defense Department program was meant to reduce civilian harm during military operations. But months before the Iran war, the mission was dissolved as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made “lethality” a top priority.

words insufficient to describe how horrible Trumps attitude towards Iran and destroying people is. Let us remember the WONDERFUL things Iranian people and culture have given us. Poetry from Rumi! Algebra! The algorithm is named after an Iranian (Persian) Mathematician! (Al-Khwarizmi) INCREDIBLE food

BREAKING: In response to huge cuts in Trump's budget request, NSF is shuttering its SBE directorate. Staff will be transferred to other parts of the agency and "grants that align with Administration priorities" will be maintained. That & more w/ @maxkozlov.bsky.social & @edwrdchen.bsky.social
