My genuine advice? It's cliche but: get as good of an emulation handheld and as big of an SD card as you can afford, do it as quickly as possible, and prepare to hunker down. (There are good sub-$100 devices, too!) You'll get a lot more mileage than you will any "legit" hardware the next 3-5 years.
