Here’s AFN National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak last week saying the major projects office — which Carney touted as doing sufficient consultation ahead of naming this oil pipeline in the “national interest” — “don’t know what they’re doing when it comes to First Nations.” TRC day was yesterday.

Carney highlights the Indigenous consultation done ahead of this decision to list a crude oil pipeline in the national interest. Which is interesting, because the National Chief of the AFN has explicitly said the major projects office “don’t know what they’re doing when it comes to First Nations.”

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, I reflect on how colonial thinking runs the show, off the cliff. Alberta separationists can't handle that they are on Treaty 7 land. Federal Liberals can't handle that an LNG port expansion is expected to cause an orca population to go extinct.

Tomorrow is September 30th the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day – Every Child Matters The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was established as a response to Call 80 Follow us as we share each of those 94 Calls to Action

Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action
In order to redress the legacy of residential schools and advance the process of Canadian reconciliation, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission makes the following calls to action.

80. We call upon the federal government, in collaboration with Aboriginal peoples, to establish, as a statutory holiday, a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to honour Survivors, their families, and communities, and ensure that public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process.

Why the fuck do they keep saying “taxpayers”. You can say residents, citizens, or even people. The only reason anyone would draw lines around “taxpayers” as the people they speak for is if they think children shouldn’t be represented.

🧵 People think the movie "Naza" is supposed to be a portmanteau of "Nazis" and "Gaza", but no, the name of the movie actually has a deep meaning behind it Naza in Hebrew (נז"א) is an abbreviation of נזק בלתי אגבי, which means "collateral damage" I've volunteered in a research unit >

9/11/2001 I was a freshman in high school in Alabama, I wore a hijab. In gym class my teacher wheeled in a screen. Something horrible was happening. I watched, mouth agape as the second tower hit. We were silent. As that period reached an end, my name was announced on the loud speaker. 1/
