I’m fairly positive I ended as a teensy footnote in STCO that no-one remembers, which is my life in a nutshell. Quick reminder that I wrote a LOT of scripts in my decade tenure. No, they weren’t all good, yes I wrestled with poor mental health throughout. But I was there, goddammit!

A UK Sonic the Hedgehog comic: why I read it for ten years, and then wrote it for ten more.

Origins – the original publication Maybe you were there too; 1993 in the UK. Young, impressionable, soaking in the particular climate of video games and comics, reading CVG, browsing Digitise…

It may be Sonic's 35th birthday today but someone at STCO also turned 40 over the weekend. BIG thanks to Ferran Rodriguez for providing this extra special gift 💙 Expect the next issue of Sonic the Comic Online soon! Act 2 is on its way!!

A short, nerdy man is smiling while wearing a t-shirt displaying the next image in this post. Sonic the hedgehog holding a cake but it is spilling all around him as he runs. The numbers 4 and 0, making up the number 40 are flying away behind him.

Hey remember in Sonic the Comic when Robotnik sent out trooper Badniks to capture random civilians for no reason and sent them to who knows where to do slave labor and/or be roboticized which included children being kidnapped as well?

A panel from Sonic the Comic showing Badniks called "Troopers" breaking down a door, guns drawn.

A caption in the top left saying "In Metropolis City, things have gone from bad to worse for the citizens" Troopers kidnapping a Mobian (Probably a Mobian child??) with his mother holding a crying baby saying "No, Stop! He hasn't done anything wrong!" With the trooper saying "Everyone is guilty of something, Citizen!"

Stiv here. I know Nik didn't work on STC/O but we've been friends for over 20 years. Coupled with Nik's contributions to Sonic Retro and his work on UK mag Retro Gamer, it feels more than appropriate to share this news here and offer condolences to any others who will miss this inspirational dude 🌀⭐️

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that our colleague Nick Thorpe passed away on Monday. He was an incredibly lovely person, a talented writer and an essential part of the magazine. Our thoughts go out to all his friends and family at this difficult time. Rest in peace, friend.

Lastly some people have noticed some references, but I don’t think anyone has picked up most of the (intentionally very vague) stuff I put in the final panel. The shots of my iPad photo album show some of the other things I considered trying to work in but figured they’d be too obvious and rejected
