here I guess. they/them. fandom and books and birds. tgcf/mdzs/svsss are my jam! @soph_sol@federatedfandom.net on fedi, sophia_sol on ao3 and dw personal website: https://aviansoph.com/

my opinion about the Quad Debate is basically, if someone is able to skate well with good skating skills, strong spins and stsq and performance ability, AND land clean quads, then of course they should score higher than someone without quads, they're doing more difficult content. BUT—

Eight Days is a fantastic, Hugo-winning podcast, & this episode features me as special guest! Becca and Emily are the smartest people around, & kindly invited me to talk about my fave, The Lives of Christopher Chant, & also bureaucracy, & colonisation of mind, & a bit about cricket. do check it out.

we're back and launching S3 with a BANGER today as the fabulous @singlecrow.bsky.social joins us for a TWO HOUR episode on our favorite future-dressing-gown-wearing disaster, Christopher Chant zencastr.com/z/26xps9hC

because to bingzu, /that wouldn't be him./ a child named luo binghe, no matter how pitiful his childhood, would not be the person bingzu wanted to save without going through the endless abyss. that's why it's a fixed plot point. because without that ordeal to shape him, it's not really binghe.

when you're a birder in autumn, you spend a lot of time having your eye caught by falling leaves, bc some of them look a lot like a bird in flight, then being disappointed but I've grown to kind of enjoy it? bc it means I spend far more time admiring the beauty of a leaf drifting in the air!

hua cheng and luo binghe are handshake meme on being like "you didn't respond to my last text for twenty minutes and i just want to make sure we're okay." lan wangji isn't like that bc wwx has never once taken twenty minutes to respond to his text

My favourite thing I learned for this episode is that DWJ had a mental image for Howl and it was Andre Agassi. 1980s Andre Agassi with the blond mullet and the tiny shorts. PLEASE look up photos you will not be disappointed.

through dangers untold (sleeping infants) and hardships unnumbered (three wildly incompatible timezones) we have managed to successfully kidnap brilliant romance expert @freyamarske.bsky.social to discuss DWJ's most romantic novel with us. Happy Howl's Moving Castle Day! zencastr.com/z/r0LaZYob

"the personal is political" yes and it's amazing how many opinions I came up with that I'm not adding to that thread because it's connected to something that is politicised in some way or another. hell, even the ones I AM posting, most of them I could connect to politics in some way!

8 days of dwj released their episode about fire and hemlock today, and I finally understand why people talk about that one as being her magnum opus. and also why I bounced off it the one time I tried to read it, when I was a kid! I think it was actually even a dnf for me.

Really like this project by Ari Versluis and Ellie Uyttenbroek. Titled Exactitudes, it's a series of portraits stretching back 20 years that shows how people style themselves to signal they're part of a group and unique individuals within that group. exactitudes.com

I wish more sff short fiction publishers gave story summaries, so I can know the kind of story to expect! - Strange Horizons, Beneath Ceaseless Skies: On the story page, nothing. On the issue page, a brief quote, prob intended to provide the flavour, but the chosen excerpts tell me nothing [1/3]

both tgcf and mdzs are stories with protagonists with compromised agency, bound by social obligations and/or manipulated by forces they cannot control. scum villain is the story of a guy who makes a lot of decisions while yelling I'M NOT THE ONE DECIDING TO DO THIS
