Defence spending blew out by $1.3 billion last year, the biggest overrun in government. Welfare came in $3 billion under. Education $400 million under. The government is now hunting for savings in social programs. Defence gets a free pass.

The winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2026 is Navi Pillay, a brave extraordinary woman who has served at the International Criminal Court prosecuting genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. Immediately after being notified she had won, she mocked the orange felon on video. Love her. 💙👊

My article has just been published (Open Access) on the Japanese Journal of Political Science! It was initially a paper on how representative political systems might be reconciled with social equality, but after many roundabouts it's now a paper on the election/sortition debate. Hope it interests!

Well, many roles in Athens in the "golden age" of democracy were appointed by sortition - basically the same as pulling lottery or bingo balls - from among the eligible citizenry. Can't help think that it's worth trying that...

Police violently drag Hispanic grandmother across rough ground-injuring both arms. Witnesses yell she has a serious heart condition & was just released from hospital. Cops kneel on her chest anyway. "They dragged her like a doll," brother said. Incident occurred in Batesville, Texas

We really need to just abolish the supreme court. Idk why we are clinging onto institutions which basically never work. There's nothing even remotely democratic about a supreme court. We could just use sortition to select a large jury. Judges shouldnt be writing the law, we should.

We've gotta stop calling it corruption. The US government has produced extremely consistent outcomes for its entire history. Every step of progress in our history has been the direct result of mass pressure AGAINST the government and the rich men who own our economy. We must build a real democracy.
