Reminder: - "Kemonozume" was the very first anime series directed by Masaaki Yuasa - As far as I know, it has never been released outside of Japan : no broadcast or DVD or Blu-ray release abroad (even though an HD master exists)

It was too funny how I'd started Otakon with several conversations about how Shirow's writing can make Ghost in the Shell kind of hard to follow moment-to-moment, and then later that weekend the new show's producer and writer both said they hardly understood the manga the first time they read it

I can't tell if this poking fun or if it's a mix of commentaries on the reliance that American productions had on outsourcing animation to Japanese studios, the rise in popularity of Japanese media/goods, and how cartoons with greater emphasis on plot were more popular than gag cartoons at the time.

IIRC, Katsushi Murakami was the one who pushed for Machine Robo to have the same level of engineering and quality as larger deluxe toys but in a small, affordable package that kids could buy with pocket money. He basically created a whole new paradigm for toys.
