I had to highlight this tribute to Mamoru Oshii's live action film "Stray Dogs - Keberos Panzer Cops" in the new animated movie "Patlabor EZY - File 1". They literally recreated almost all of the shots from the original 1991 trailer.

It was too funny how I'd started Otakon with several conversations about how Shirow's writing can make Ghost in the Shell kind of hard to follow moment-to-moment, and then later that weekend the new show's producer and writer both said they hardly understood the manga the first time they read it

With today being the actual day "There Will Come Soft Rains" by Ray Bradbury takes place, I was going to share the haunting Soviet adaptation – only to find that version takes place later this year on December 31. That should be a fun way to welcome the new year.

Excerpt from the beginning of There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury which contains the line "Today is August 4, 2026"Screenshot from the 1984 Uzbek animated adaptation of "There Will Come Soft Rains." A crucifix hangs on the wall next to a calendar that reads 31-12-2026.

Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.

Gundam Hathaway 2 will be up for rental on August 17 (in Japan), and then it'll release on Prime (in Japan) on the 31st, while it'll also continue to be distributed on Netflix worldwide as is like the previous film. And it still takes until Fall to watch theatrically in the UK unfortunately, lmfao.

I didn't do a panel for Otakon this year and I kind of regret that. Seeing people I haven't seen for a while and watching them make cool stuff has me a little buzzed. I feel like I need to figure out some kind of new anime-related project to work on.

Great news, looks like Trider is being newly fansubbed! Last year when I went through the show it was using ARR's notoriously lousy and likely machine-translated subs. It'll be nice to see someone have an honest go at it.

Replacing Triton of the Sea (Which @haydenthehistorian.bsky.social picked up) is Invincible Robot Trider G7, the third in Sunrise's Muteki (Invincible) trilogy following Zambot 3 and Daitarn 3.

Now that Masters of the Universe is on Prime Video, you can freeze frame on the “blink and you miss it” stuff the set designers put in. Yep, that’s Grendizer, Getter Robo G, Reideen since someone knew to shout out Shogun Heroes/Force Five stuff of that era as well. There is even a Kinnikuman/MUSCLE:

Among the toys is a UFO Robo Grendizer which is partially obscuring a Getter Robo G alongside it.Still image from 2026’s Masters of the Universe. Another zoomed image of the toy case, in which Brave Reideen is prominently visible in the middle.Still image from 2026’s Masters of the Universe. An exotic falcon sits perched in the top of a common desk chair, with the bookshelf behind her set up to draw attention to detailed sketches of Castle Grayskull and a shelf of books whose most prominent title pertains to SWORDS. Nearly unnoticed atop a drawer cabinet is a lone greenish-blue tiny plastic mini figurine: unmistakably a Kinnikuman aka M.U.S.C.L.E. toy. This image was sent to Yudetamago on Twitter, who liked the post, which means they now have seen it and know it was done.
