Reylo. Sometimes posts about toys and other nonsense. Sparrowshift on AO3. Mute #beardonkadonkfic if you're not following me for the reylo. 18+ she/her

If you followed or signal-boosted the claims a few weeks back by the historian who said the graphic novelist had done an unauthorized adaptation of her work on Charity & Sylvia, a lesbian couple from 19th c Vermont, please read this essay from someone who fact-checked these claims in detail.

out it goes: my long post about Rachel Hope Cleves's claim that Tillie Walden plagiarised her book. It's long because Cleves's claim is much, much more bizarre than it looked on first reading. I'm not going to bury the lede here. Cleves's claim does not hold up. buttondown.com/thene/archiv...

Day 6: still not enough details on the flowers. Maybe they're just too opaque? I can see through them when I hold them up to the light 🤷‍♀️ more success with the egg carton, just did it a little late in the day so the shadows are long.

Cyanotype of transparent plastic egg carton with eggs. The whole thing seems elongated. Cyanotype of three flowers and leaves, opaque, with translucent petals.

I've decided to make one cyanotype per day for a month to help me experiment and learn. This is the first one I've made where I mixed and brushed the chemicals myself. At first it will mostly be photograms, but I'm hoping to use negatives at some point.

folks donating to state legislative candidates is some of the biggest bang for your buck you can get in politics if you want to feel like you’re making a difference and not just throwing your money in the ocean, this is where to focus your efforts

holy shit we have raised over $50K last week!! as promised, I have refreshed the list with the next group of 9 candidates, with a focus on including the Michigan swing district candidates who just won their primaries last week! 🧵thread on all the new candidates below:

Okay when I first started this whole cyanotype business I was like "it's kinda fun! I like relying on sunlight instead of a UV box!" But now it's raining 😭 Luckily I do have some UV light strips from when I'd fix up g1 my little pony, so maybe I can repurpose those.

Last night my 3yo heard me make an eggo waffle when I thought he was asleep and now I'm receiving the Spanish Inquisition. "Why did you eat a waffle?" "I think you made a waffle and bread. I heard two toasts."

Every time I do anything visual artsy I feel frustrated because I feel really lacking in the basics. I'm shit at color and composition, even compared to random people without art backgrounds. It's hard coming from something where I have a lot of fluency (writing) to something where I have none.

Day 3: boring compared to day 2. I was going to do a exposure test for the egg carton, but there were occasional clouds so I decided to wait. Did leaves & dried anchovies, then was determined to get details on the leaf so I doubled the exposure time to no avail. I think it needs 20+ minutes.

Two cyanotypes: one of red bud tree leaves on a bough, another of the same leaves with squiggles on the bottom ,(dried anchovies)

Day 2: plastic egg carton with eggs. Definitely will be redoing this one with better-coated paper and better exposure. I also like plastic packaging for these conceptually, so expect more on this theme!

Friend who is a teacher went to a speed dating event. Met the CEO of some small company. Prompt: what would you do with a million dollars? CEO: what charities would you donate to? My friend: ohhh hoho, CHARITIES. I was thinking more paying medical loans and a house down payment... ...reylo.

Widow's Bay spoilers . . . . . Watched the last episode last night, and everything with Ruth was incredibly moving. The show doesn't let Tom off the hook at any point. Ruth doesn't turn out to be a monster. Even when he tells her about the trolley problem she never gives him the answer we want. 👌

I love Talarico and hope he wins. But he’s already raised $70M On the flipside, control of critical state legislatures will come down to seats where candidates raise 0.1% of that. I’ve researched the highest leverage swing district candidates you should donate to secure.actblue.com/donate/donat...

Donate to the candidates on the front lines of the fight against MAGA gerrymandering

These are anti-MAGA state candidates in *extremely* close races

Mr Sparrow after finishing The Tainted Cup/A Drop of Corruption: ugh I'm rereading Dracula and it's suddenly such a slog... I loved it the first two times! Me: it's The Tainted Cup effect! It's the ultimate romp book! You have to slowly readjust back to normal literature!

I'm very lucky to have been able to achieve my dream aquarium - 240litres to replace my two smaller tanks. I've gradually been breaking down my two tanks and transferred everything to this set-up. I currently have a get-along barrier up to stop my two Bristlenose groups fighting!

A photograph of a 240litre aquarium with white trim sitting on an oak cabinet. There's lots of rocks and plants in the tank.
