At the start of the Civil War, there were 4 million people who were enslaved in the US. Families were separated so some members could be sold to plantations in other parts of the country, including children.

I just learned that data centers don't even NEED to use all the water they're guzzling up. It's all because the people making them refuse to make proper cooling loops, but it's cheaper to just turn all that water into waste. What the actual fuck. Want for efficiency is dead apparently.

My not-so-hot take is that what Mamdani is doing *IS* incrementalism, and the bar is so deeply in hell that a politician just doing *anything* good consistently is a total anomaly for people. And I think for now that is good and fine, because it is restoring people’s faith that better is possible.

Name a TV show you’re positive no one else remembers but you. I have been talking a lot about No Heroics in the wake of Dispatch’s popularity. Loads of the people in it are big names in comedy now.

The number of autistic people I love who have richer, fuller, more accomplished lives than that slab of rotting leather offcuts is measurable on a cosmic scale. The parasites that ate his brain have more empathy. His severed raccoon penis has more intelligence. And he is trying to start a genocide.

I was 10 when I watched this episode, and 100% just went, "yup, that's a woman." So much of Star Trek was about encountering new beings and figuring out what _they_ thought they were. Star Trek is political because it refutes the hegemony of identity on which our politics are built.
