For people who want to see a screen reader in action, it can be helpful to start with this demo from Hadi Rangin of the University of Washington's IT Accessibility Team. Among the things Rangin discusses are ARIA landmarks, headings, and text content. youtu.be/7Rs3YpsnfoI

Using a Screen Reader

You don't necessarily need to say "image of" in your alt text for users to know it's an image. Screen readers will announce that it's an image. But it can help readers to specify if it's a hand-drawn image, Polaroid, infographic, screenshot, chart, map, diagram, or so on.

Gentle reminder to all 3d artists out there (but a reminder for me) Genshin's 7.0 models have clipping IronMouse's 3D model has clipping Wuwa's models have clipping If they can have clipping, so can you.

I think a lot of ppl underestimate how much their dollar actually helps artists, writers, journalists etc. And I think a lot of people overestimate how following translates to income. I don't have a 1$ tier so it is hard to convert, but about 1% of my following is actual subscribers.

people get intimidated by the social belief of "supporting the arts" as like donating $5,000,000 for a new wing at a museum or hosting some gala it's not. 10% of our audience throwing us $1.00 a month would literally be *life-changing* money most artists are in the same boat.

Steps to stop hating your art: Don't present it to others negativity first. Focus on improvement, not "flaws". Compare yourself to your own work, not the work of others. Remember everyone has bad art days. Find joy in what you've done well and achieved. Work with intent, set goals if you need to.

Avoid using images of big blocks of text on your website. Using actual text instead of images of text will help screen reader users, but also will help people with reading disabilities. Using actual text helps users who need to adjust the text's font, color, size, and alignment.

urgency often = inaccessibility, btw! disabled ppl have to manage energy very carefully so asking them to do things short notice or quickly often uneccessarily or due to poor planning leaves them having to push themselves beyond their capacity, make them seem unreliable or leaves them out entirely 🤷🏻

WRT the last QRP, "Let people enjoy things!!" like, bitch let yourself enjoy things! Enjoy something without letting the fact someone hates it ruin your day! The only thing stopping your enjoyment is your own misplaced guilt.
