Two facts that nobody seems to have connected: African Americans are overrepresented as perpetrators of violent crime by a factor of ~1.6 relative to their percentage in the population and by a factor of ~1.5 in military service.
I've got to confess that I never paid all that much attention to the racial capitalism stuff, not souch because I think the global economic order isn't shaped by socially constructed racial hierarchies, but because the Marxist inheritance confuses the issues involved.

The ironic effect of the left being full of humanities mahors who specialize in producing walls of text, is that the logic of how LLMs actually work means that the very thing that that will make them obsolete will also ensure their victory in the culture war.
An under discussed part of the Platner affair is the devide about how we should think about "violence workers." Are cops, soldiers, marines, ext. a necessary part of society and an essential part of a working class coalition, or are they inevitably agents of systems of oppression?

Carbon capture is actually two very different technologies. You're either capturing greenhouse gasses at the source, which adds a bunch of thermal inefficiency to energy production, or your capturing it from the atmosphere, which requires a huge amount of energy that has to be generated somehow.

I think it depends on the architecture. Trees growing over an old stone temple produces an accidental Frank Lloyd Wright-esque harmony with nature. Cracked steel reinforced concrete is just ugly.
John C. Baez@johncarlosbaez.bsky.social · 2mo agoWhen I worked in Singapore at the Centre of Quantum Technologies I went to Cambodia and visited Ta Prohm, an old temple near Angkor Wat. You may have seen it in "Tomb Raider". As nature regains control, it beautifies what it ruins.
