As Kidlit authors we've all seen that these bans also mean that books don't get published in the first place. School visits get canceled and kids don't become readers. Without kid readers we don't have adult readers.

I started drafting THE HICKORY SWITCH on November 11 - exactly one month ago. The last book to fall out of my head like this was The Clackity, which I also wrote in exactly a month. The book I wrote before this took me six agonizing months. Who's to say how any of this works.

I also go through and request based on lists of new graphic novels (because the popular titles often aren't there). We buy the ones they loved and want to reread.
