My near silent child came home yesterday & said he'd signed up for Mock Trial. I am still gob smacked. He's a freshman & I've been hoping he would get his footing in high school. He dove head first into everything! He's been at the school 6 days a week from the start for theater tech & now this.

The short version of this is: the stupidity machine stole the books, then used the stupidity machine to build a stupid machine that cannot be fixed no matter what you do to pay out the 1.5 billion they have to may for all they stealing. Which sounds like a lot until you realize it's SO MANY BOOKS.

The exciting part about the Anthropic vibe coded settlement backend is that no matter how many times you fix your information, the same broken bits will reappear. It will be total madness. The entire backend is broken because, AS THEY TOLD ME ON THE PHONE, they know it is because they vibe coded.

*extremely tired voice* "Make TV shows of 10-20 episodes a season ... *sigh* ... that come out on a yearly basis *lays down on the ground, stares into the sun* ... of 5+ seasons." There. There. Theerrre is your solution.

ANYWAHOO: 1. You have to love the writing more than the .01% possibility of fame 2. You have to keep hope alive 3. But have realistic expectations 4. Make connections with other writers 5. Keep writing 6. Know that there is very little the author can do to move the needle on publishing success 14/

It can't be said too often: in the days when Twitter was much less Nazi-ish, it was dismissed by commentators & journalists as "not real life". The moment it was taken over by a literal Nazi white supremacist CSAM breeder freak who remade it as an ultraright bigot algorithm, it became real life.

Again, it is ...odd that before Elon Musk bought Twitter, the regular refrain lobbed at people using the site was that it was not real life, and now that it is owned by the world's richest white supremacist, that same crowd finds it much more reflective of real life.

I just saw an article asking if there were too many horror movies. NO. I watch SO MANY! What am I going to put on for background if people stop making stuff like zombie donuts from outer space? Make all of the things! A friend and I still talk about the awesome dialogue in "Crabs!"

Last night I went to local theater, which I recommend everyone do! The original show involved were-hens, a black ops fish & wildlife agent, & innkeepers trying to save their inn with quiche. The special ingredient? Were-hen eggs. The problem? There's only a male were-hen who lays fertilized eggs.

I'm watching Below, which I'm enjoying, but I keep looking at the dad and thinking Josh Hartnett is too young to have adult children even though he is the same age as me and I have adult children.
