What I wouldn't give for old Google. My daughter competes in showjumping. We select the shows with her trainer at the beginning of the season and I know I needed to sign her up for this next one. So I google the show name. These are BIG shows. They ALL have websites. And yet...

Getting real sick of slop midwives pleading for a 'respectful discussion' of AI as relates to the arts. Your use of AI to 'make art' is not respectful. It benefits from stolen art, destroys the planet, and does not make you an artist any more than someone driving 26.2 miles is a marathoner.

Kids have the hardest times finding books they want because so many book stores put all kids books together like it's a monolith, instead of specific genres and age groups. Let's face it, MG kids don't want to shop with the potty training picture books. And YA graphic novels are not the same as MG.

my fav local shop puts everything from 4-18 in the same "children's" comic section so that it's mostly middle grade stuff but also hello sunshine and Clementine (the walking dead comic by Tillie Walden) show up next to an entire row of dogmans and dude I just. there's gotta be a better method haha

I've written a longer piece on the book that's been pulled due to "AI" use allegations, what that means particularly for newer authors, and what, if anything writers can do in the "AI" era to prove their work is their own: whatever.scalzi.com/2026/07/31/a...

Another Reason Not to Use “AI” For Your Writing

Back in February I did a long post about “AI” and why I wouldn’t use it for my own writing, and one of the reasons I gave was “the fact that ‘AI’-generated text …

Meta now lets anyone use your Instagram photos in AI images without your consent. SAG-AFTRA recommends that #SagAftraMembers (and all Instagram users) opt-OUT of Meta’s new AI image generation tool, Muse Image. Take action to protect your likeness.

If you want to avoid AI generations of your Instagram posts without switching your account to private, you’ll have to dig into the app’s settings. Open the Instagram app, tap your profile, and then tap the three lines in the top-right corner of the screen. Then, scroll down to the Sharing and reuse tab. Here is where you should see a section labeled Allow people to use your content on Instagram and with AI features on Meta, with a toggle for Posts and one for Reels.

28. The Democrats should go on the offensive, demanding that the immigration system be burned down and rebuilt so the burden of proof is no longer on the masses yearning to breathe free but on the government to assume the humanity of "new Americans" so their pathway to citizenship is just details.

Before the Democrats can free immigrants, they must free themselves from the GOP

The GOP has taken a maximal position that requires a maximal counter-position.

6. I think it's up to the rest of us to push the Democrats, because they tend toward inertia, not action. The party's mainstream – think Chuck Schumer – will interpret the Supreme Court's decision on birthright citizenship as the end of the story. Fact is, it's probably the beginning.

I've been learning to back up a horse trailer (which sucks by the way) and I think about it all night. I think I'm getting sleep regression like a baby learning a new skill. I get it now, babies.

a) there are, like, single digit trans girls in sports in most states (sometimes literally one!), this entire thing is made up so that one girl who wants to play sports with her friends can't do it b) do not, under any circumstances, make policy based on angry sports parents

Gluesenkamp Perez: "At town halls, what I saw was the people who were the most upset had spent the last 12 years driving their girls to sports practice & they view their best shot of their student going to college as an athletic scholarship. So when we rush to moralize we miss some of the nuance."
