My dad and stepmom are in town tmrw for shopping/appointments, so we're getting lunch. My dad wants to take my car in to get the tires looked at, bc they're starting to split. Welp, I have 2 self-care appointments after lunch I'm not willing to cancel. I thought it was just lunch! 😩 #spoonie

Junior came back about 1:30. No interest in the snack bowl. I tossed a couple snacks, he grabbed one and headed to the side yard. It’s warm, or maybe he trotted over here - beak is open to cool off. Send BT this way, buddy! 🪶

A visiting roadrunner is near the patio on grass. The bird is looking towards the camera with its beak open.

"Can I eat that?" A juvenile Red-tailed Hawk checks out a fungus. The fungus is reddish brownish; maybe it's close enough to the color of a chipmunk and that's where the intrigue came in? The hawk did eventually go for a bite, but it was only one bite and then the hawk lost all interest.

We can talk all day long about why we even have separate facilities, whether RADAR is actually helpful or not, whether we should have to mark ourselves in order to not be harassed by nosy assholes, but in the meantime, you’re safe with me.

You can also snag a sunflower lanyard. It’s not a promise that ableists will leave you alone, but it does draw some of the critique away. It’s also generally not a lie—most trans people I know do live with one or more “invisible” disabilities.

We are also really, REALLY used to the stress of “shit, what if I have to pee while I am out, is there anywhere safe for me to do that?” It derails plans, can make us physically sick to try to avoid it, and is generally infuriating, because it does not have to be like this.

Disabled people are almost all familiar with the effects of the social model of disability—where it’s less our bodies preventing full social inclusion and more of the fact that abled people just can’t quit throwing up barriers for us. In short: we get it.

This is wonderful; everyone should have access to something like this. Speaking of access, I can’t speak for every disabled person in the community, but if the accessible toilet is where you feel safe, please go. (RADAR keys are like £4 and unlike a blue badge, nobody gatekeeps.)
