Tried out Space Marine (1989 "epic" scale WH40k) at my local club on Friday. My "opponent" brought everything that was needed, so I could just turn up and play! Enjoyed the game, despite my standard smattering of daft mistakes, and plenty of beginner's ones... #Oldhammer

Because mid-Feb is a good time to do a "last year" recap... 🧐 My target was 48 minis for the year, so that's a pretty big miss, but at least I got paint on a few. Emphasises how much I'm motivated by upcoming games: 3rd edition chaos, then BOYL warbands, then One Page Rules at my local club.

Next up. I'm not sure how I acquired these, as my set of old second-hand beakies are dark blue plastic, and I only have a handful of these cream frames. I've had them since the late 1980s though, so maybe mail order sold individual frames? Either that or I must have split a set with a mate.

First game of 40k in a while was very lopsided. Even at 1k points the alpha strike potential is so crazy. I'll have to see if I can marry my terrain and how I like a board to look with their prescribed layouts for balance. While overly complicated the rules are flavourful compared to OPR #nerdlings

My brother is doing a bit of a clear-out of his childhood so has a number of old minis (mostly Bo Olley Iron Claw squats) up on eBay at the moment, in case anyone who follows me is interested in that sort of thing 😃 An example: ebay.us/m/RRnWkd

Back onto marines - heavier weapons this time. My plastic marines have had a rough life, with various bubbles from plastic cement and the odd lump carved out either by me or the old school friend that I bought them from many years ago. Hoping to get these complete by the end of the month... 😬

My circles here are fairly tightly curated to be Warhammer-adjacent but I'm hoping there's enough crossover to ask: WW2 model kits (tanks / AFVs) - who are good manufacturers at around an Airfix budget level?

Properly surprised to find these in a 30+ year old box of assorted junk earlier, along with my deodorant tank... Blister is still sealed, so they're probably the most valuable minis I own. Going to have to open it though!

Last batch is going slowly, but I need to get one of them and this guy ready for Friday. The right arm was a pain to strip, I'm not sure what paint had been used on it but it had been there since 1988...

Next mini project. These three space dwarfs (two #Oldhammer Citadel and one from @diehardminiatures.bsky.social ), plus three others that needed a second go in the stripping jar, need to be finished by the end of Oct.

I'm very pleased with how she's turned out, but getting this mounted thug finished has been a complete slog, and blew through my 31 August goal. Lovely minis but fiddly and multi-part. Plus the first horse I've painted since my very early days, before the idea of photo references occurred to me!

I built this kit from BMT miniatures. It’s based on an illustration from the original Rogue Trader book. I have to have ALL the tanks for my guard! I green stuffed in the gaps, now it just needs paint. Anyone know what this tank is called? I can’t find any information other than the illustration.

A great game of #Oldhammer in Exeter yesterday. My chaos force and skaven facing off against a force of dwarves. The goal was to control the middle of the field, with a ruined tower and church splitting the table into clear thirds. Despite a last minute painting splurge my choices were limited.

It's worth tidying sometimes. Box of bubble wrap had not only the orc standard bearer I was pretty sure was in there, but also the troll I was missing, the minotaur I could have done with finding a few weeks ago, ...

I followed @mogsymakes.bsky.social tutorial on multibases for magnetized single miniatures and he released me from a 20 years curse of decision making. Looks so good. Thank you!!
