Standard issue optimistic skeptic. That's me with Kermit Ruffins in the tiny circle, a signal I may post about roots music even though people associate me with beer (appellationbeer.com), and specifically with hops (hopqueries.com/subscribe).

Sort of thing that should be fairly easy to resolve for certain with a DNA fingerprint, which is not difficult or that expensive to do. MM is unusual among Wye hops in having "Oregon Cluster" as her N. American grandmother from a cross Salmon did pre-WWI so before he had BB1, keystone of Wye hops.

The gall of these people. The biggest brewer of cask ale in the world have done absolutely NOTHING to support cask ale in recent years, and then they say they need to close the brewery because volumes are down so much. Vandalism, pure and simple. www.foodmanufacture.co.uk/Article/2026...

Marston’s brewery to close as cask volumes nosedive

Carlsberg Britvic has announced it is proposing to close the Marston’s Brewery in Burton-upon-Trent amid dwindling cask ale volumes.

Here's a job ad from 1841, in which the citizens of Pilsen with the right to brew announced that they were currently building a brewery, to be finished in autumn 1842, and that they were looking for a brewer to fill the position of managing director or brewmaster by end of May 1842. #beerhistory

An ad, translated to English it says:

For brewers

The brewing-entitled citizens of Pilsen in Bohemia are constructing a brewery for lager, which is due to be completed and brought into operation in the autumn of 1842. The brewery is situated on the river, equipped with all necessary premises, accommodation and an excellent rock cellar, and will have a sufficient stock of malt; the brew is calculated at 64 Austrian buckets and the annual production at approximately 8,000 to 10,000 buckets. To manage this business, an experienced brewer, fully qualified in his field and able to provide evidence of this through references and a suitable security deposit, is sought as manager or brewmaster; he is assured of a reasonable salary, in addition to free accommodation, the use of spent grain and waste products, a licence to serve beer to be obtained, and similar benefits.

Those wishing to apply should do so in writing, or preferably in person for the sake of better communication, by the end of May 1842 at the latest, to the committee of the brewing-entitled citizens of Pilsen in Bohemia.

Wow, high volume bar in Boston kept getting under-delivered by AB during the World Cup so they've very publicly dropped their entire product line. I don't remember seeing anything quite like this before.

Post from Sullivan's Tap

We have been doing business with @ab_oneboston since our doors opened in 1933.

During the hight of the World Cup they left us high and dry. After countless attempts to get them to come in and deliver to us, they would either not show up or forget half our order at the warehouse.

We can not operate under these situations and want to provide you with our best service. We have decided to eliminate their products from our bar. They are not the only game in town and we can always find you something else to drink.

If this upsets you then we apologize but we have to do what's in the best interest for the bar. We needed a reliable distributor and they failed.
