This *absolutely fucking sucks* to post, but I'm doing what I can ❤️‍🩹 TL;DR: My employer denied my accommodations & gave me no choice but to go on an unexpected leave, which impacts my finances hard. If you have the ability to & are comfortable, I'd appreciate it if y'all could donate something 🙏

Huge ass wall of text explaining what's going on; highlights:

"I'm Myr, I'm 29 and I was recently denied accommodations needed to perform my job. Instead, my work place "gave me the choice" to accept a 2-3 week leave to replace it. Because of the nature of the situation I am in (either take the leave right now, or continue to try and force my body to work 40 hour work weeks, which I haven't been able to complete for months now), I had to take the leave while my PCP advocates for my accommodations under the ADA. The day after my accommodations were rejected was the day I had to make the decision to go on leave, as said decision was on a time crunch. So going on leave was abrupt and unplanned, hitting my spouse & I financially.

Whatever is going on with my health is disabling & significant enough to disrupt my work & personal life. It causes orthostatic intolerance & hypotension, and finding the cause of it is difficult & time-consuming; it's not something that's easily diagnosed and can come from different sources. What I've been advocating for is a reduced schedule, which would allow me to pace & create some more stability with my energy & income, but I'm doing what I can to work with my employer with this. This entire months-long battle has become a chaotic rollercoaster managing my symptoms, inconsistent income and work schedule, and mental health strain I cannot begin to describe.

This is where y'all come in! If you're able to throw anything our way- literally anything & everything helps right now, as it'll all go to our bills & living expenses while we do our best to get through these next weeks and I hopefully get the accommodations needed in order to excel in my work place. I don't know what will happen as technically the only approved "accommodation" is the leave I'm currently on, but I'm in constant communication with all parties involved and hope for the best.

From what I understand, Carve & Spit / Abyssal Drain should be used as a part of your DRK rotation. I don't do that- I use it as a last-minute resort to heal myself if my health is dropping rapidly & I already have a mitigation up. #WoLAotd

This concept was introduced to me as "run the dishwasher twice" and was an important part of my executive functioning recovery as well as my path to self-acceptance.

When I was at one of my lowest (mental) points in life, I couldn't get out of bed some days. I had no energy or motivation and was barely getting by.

I had therapy once per week, and on this particular week I didn't have much to 'bring' to the session. He asked how my week was and I really had nothing to say.

'What are you struggling with?' he asked.

I gestured around me and said 'I dunno man. Life.'

Not satisfied with my answer, he said 'No, what exactly are you worried about right now? What feels overwhelming? When you go home after this session, what issue will be staring at you?'

I knew the answer, but it was so ridiculous that I didn't want to say it. I wanted to have something more substantial.
Something more profound.

But I didn't.

So I told him, 'Honestly? The dishes. It's stupid, I know, but the more I look at them the more I CAN'T do them because I'll have to scrub them before I put them in the dishwasher, because the dishwasher sucks, and I just can't stand and scrub the dishes.'

I felt like an idiot even saying it.

What kind of grown ass woman is undone by a stack of dishes? There are people out there with *actual* problems, and I'm whining to my therapist about dishes?

But he nodded in understanding and then said:

'RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE.'

I began to tell him that you're not supposed to, but he stopped me.

'Why the hell aren't you supposed to? If you don't want to scrub the dishes and your dishwasher sucks, run it twice. Run it three times, who cares?! Rules do not exist.'

It blew my mind in a way that I don't think I can properly express.

That day, I went home and tossed my smelly dishes haphazardly into the dishwasher and ran it three times.

I felt like I had conquered a dragon.

The next day, I took a shower lying down.

A few days later. I folded my laundry and put them wherever the fuck they fit.

There were no longer arbitrary rules I had to follow, and it gave me the freedom to make accomplishments again.

Now that I'm in a healthier place, I rinse off my dishes and put them in the dishwasher properly. I shower standing up. I sort my laundry.

But at a time when living was a struggle instead of a blessing, I learned an incredibly important lesson:

THERE ARE NO RULES. RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE!!!"

sure you're perfect i used to give myself shit that i wouldn't be able to eat healthier or take care of myself in an optimal way here's a cool trick tho: ANYTHINGis is better than nothing. if you can only eat a couple vegetables? buddy thats better than no vegetables. worried about brushing your teeth for like three minutes? do like ten seconds instead want to socialize more often but you're worried you can't do multi-hour events? babe you're an adult now, if you get tired you can just leave lol If you want to improve, fuck yeah, work your way up to more of whatever. starting at all is the hard part - if you can do that then you've got a lot of what you need already anyway ive crunched the numbers and treating yourself a little bit better than yesterday is actually a million times better than trying to Fix Your Life Completely and getting mad when you can't do a 180. be nice and recognize that you can live a lot of your life in first or second drafts; if you're not perfect yet? fuck it, you'll get better later! u can do it!!! woof!!
