Out of all the infrastructure that got thrown up last minute to celebrate the millennium a quarter century ago, is there anything left standing that doesn't suck?

Giving your kid "Dean" as a middle name seems like it's tempting fate since they'll be obligated to go by the full threefold serial killer form Richard Dean Anderson Harry Dean Stanton Jeffrey Dean Morgan Or I guess respected character actor
I truly fucked up not doing my due diligence on Platner before offering high praise for his communication skills. Enough was out there at the time that I should have been more cautious. Especially because I met adventurer dudes like him reporting in Iraq. Deep respect to all who got it right. 1/2
Too bad I don't gamble, since I like the chances that Russell Brand runs for Parliament in Clacton
The fun thing about Western politics is that spread out as we are it's unlikely that I'll know who you are at a glance if you're running for office, but if I do... then I know your family, their entire deal, and your history up through and possibly including college
It's a weird time for me to be hanging out by myself on election day. I spent so many years with campaigns where election day was a *thing* that involved hectic scrambling for every last minute voter. It's all mail now.
the official publication of the American Jesuits using the word "schismatic" is a sign that things are really popping off
Pope Leo makes final appeal to SSPX before schismatic ordination of bishops: ‘Please turn back!’
Pope Leo made a last-minute appeal to the SSPX to “turn back” from illicitly ordaining bishops, saying, “to tear the seamless garment of Christ is a sin of extreme gravity.”

happy Possible Schism Eve to all who celebrate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Worth noting that all of this applies to everyone. Trans people are only demanding the same consideration as everyone else and the efforts to keep them from that are also a burden on everyone else.
We are swiftly headed for a society in which a trans kid must undergo state mandated torture, are banned from being on line, are banned from hanging out in most public spaces, are banned from using bathrooms at school, banned from accessing the health care they need, and banned from playing sports.
I feel like the AI use in games and movies mostly stems from some management figure demanding it directly because of stupid investment, but also from artists confronted with arbitrary requests that are so nonsensical that they're left with no idea and no ready references... so they ask the machine
using AI at any stage of game development is loser shit but the excuse of "oh we only used it during the concept art stage" is always insane to me. concept art is literally the fun part. you asked the robot to do the fun part for you. do you also need the robot to eat dessert for you
One of the things that grates on my library research background is social media's taste for a/b testing. I can understand the marketing urge to try and tailor a product to appeal to the widest audience, but, if you're trying to convey information and meaning, an inconsistent message undercuts that.
@anyaustin.bsky.social Watching your video living a normal life in Skyrim, I'm struck by how shitty the place actually is in terms of the world of the game. So much of the food is imported, only available in barrels or stores. There are no sheep and flax or cotton aren't grown there.
How's US military recruitment going these days? Who's signing up for deployment in an even stupider forever war? Destroying universities through funding cuts and the imposition of MAGA cultural commissars makes the GI Bill less of a deal. No station overseas with one of our soon to be former allies
I'm a climate expert. I know 1000s of climate experts. One fact we all know: poor people care about climate more than rich people. Hardly surprising when you can't afford AC, work outside, etc. A few issues in the article... /1

This is a poisonous initiative. If passed, it would prevent the legislature from using vehicle/fuel tax revenue to fund public transit, bike lanes, pedestrian infrastructure, or anything not directly tied to motor vehicle road use. Bad deal.

I was too late to be into Avatar the Last Airbender, but I watched the whole series a couple years ago. I just now watched the leaked new animated movie and got teary at all the right moments, and got all the fan service moments. Nostalgia isn't just a revisiting childhood thing
It just occurred to me that Hank and Peggy Hill were probably born Henry and Margaret and that's upsetting
Just gonna start referring to singer songwriters as musicians who do mouth stuff *and* hand stuff
Colorado is really good at right to repair that began with a law that allows repairing and upgrading electric wheelchairs without having to resort to dealing with the manufacturer. Senate bill 90 just passed committee and punches a hole in the rights consumers have in repairing their own stuff

What does it say about this election cycle that it's the moderates and conservadems signaling presidential ambitions early? Usually they hold off in silent mode til last minute, quietly getting their funding lined up before they have to do any reporting.
firmly convinced the Rahm campaign is going to show the limits of being the media darling in the modern era because he is going to get a pile of these articles and he is going to get one percent in New Hampshire
I do not like the degree that my life might conform to the needs to people that I otherwise support. If I need to listen to your stream to the end for it to optimally register, or my viewing appliance has a specific effect on your stats... I am no longer giving a shit
This film was one of the biggest influences on Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Seeing it for the first time, Miyazaki told his friend, "I guess we’re failures, aren’t we?" This is Crac -- the first masterpiece by animator Frédéric Back. We explore: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/the-lament...
