Tomato MIK2A and Arabidopsis MIK2 appear to sense the same elicitor activity from Fusarium oxysporum. Both share some ectodomain surface amino acids for elicitor sensitivity. Tomato MIK2A, however, does not sense SCOOPs or SCOOP like peptides. Evolution of the MIK2 receptor clade is discussed.

It´s #Microscopyfriday again. Today, I found this on my harddrive. A GFP and barley Bax Inhibitor-1 expressing epidermal cell after single cell transformation of powdery mildew resistant mlo5 barley. Cell-autonomous heterologous compelementaion of susceptibilty allows for fungal sporulation.
I like the #Microscopyfriday idea and gonna post beautiful pictures from my lab. I start with Bipolaris sorokiniana attacking barley epidermis. Inverted picture. Note the nice halo around the appressorium like structure!

A true giant has left us. Widmar Tanner, a pioneer of plant transporter research, has passed away. He was a brilliant scientist, an outstanding mentor, and simply one of the kindest people one could meet. Rest in peace Widmar, and thank you for everything.
