I feel like people who weren’t actually alive long enough to form cognizant memories in 1986 would make these assertions. Transportation, medicine, raised awareness of food deserts (and steps to combat it in some cities), home entertainment, normalization of various global cuisines, the €, etc.

Sadly, when I saw the El Niño forecasting for this summer, this (the 125 AQI lunchtime) was the part I dreaded the most. I don’t think anyone in Portland has fully gotten over 13 days of 300+ AQI in Sept. 2020. It stays with you. And now, the rest of the country knows, too.

CVS and Walgreens have about as much staffing as a Dollar General at this point, with a similar amount of stock. The reason they’re locking everything up isn’t because crime is rampant, it’s because there’s barely anyone working in the stores.
