Some of my Oakland neighbors were having a block party last night. I found out via word of mouth. Kid loved it. Had no idea it was a wider thing (lol) … but can we do this more often? They blocked off the street using trash cans and skinny rope

Had a ridiculously fun time tonight at National Night Out, visiting several block parties and ending the evening at the party on my block. Loved seeing so many El Cerritans and especially kids safely enjoying the streets and getting to know neighbors. And a highlight was the fire engine visit!

This is an insightful video, although as a (mid? 1971) Gen-Xer I have to say I remember the crack epidemic but not the worst of urban decay. Cities were already starting to come back by the time I was in college in the early ‘90s

The disconnect between voters and politicians on transit issues is pretty incredible: - Voters usually back funding and expansion, whereas politicians often could not care (particularly in states viewed as hostile to transit, like Texas) - Riders care *much much* more about service than fares.

Your average American politician (even outliers like Zohran, sometimes) thinks of transit purely as a social service, as welfare. Electeds in other countries think of it as infrastructure, as an investment in the economy and broader well-being. We need better politicians. Karen Bass isn’t it

If you’re flying into or out of the Bay Area rn, I would strongly recommend avoiding SFO. I speak from personal experience (also my traveling companion was an airline ops knower). Runway work is scheduled to end 10/2; but there’ll still be the FAA restriction on parallel landings

I really want to ride buses but it’s so hard to depend on. AC Transit cut 72R, promising the reduction in service would make the other 72 routes reliable. Now there’s less service and it’s just as unreliable. I now check 30 min+ ahead of time to change plans if my bus is canceled, as it was today.
