Watching Terminator 3 for like the 20th time tonight, I am reminded yet again that it is basically an adaptation of Shaw’s Man and Superman with brilliant set pieces and high camp. I dare any of you to ask a decent chatbot to write an essay on this in the style of The Atlantic and not be amused.
I am reminded of how much less bad this is than about eight months ago, when Gemini would give me tips for synthesizing H5N1, backdooring installed SSL libraries, etc., but did draw the line at acquiring U-235. (The SSL case it claimed to demur but then gave up the goods.)

If humans beat AI to solving a problem, we remove it from the benchmark. In fact, this has happened! One problem we had accepted into the benchmark, in the “Major Advance” tier, was solved by humans prior to launch. The human solution is here: arxiv.org/abs/2607.05283

Claude and I got cookin today and did something neat. It’s like being a PhD advisor with a super capable student who can’t see the forest for the trees and makes weird judgment calls: sometimes great, sometimes trash. Sometimes mistakes (at least for Opus) and I’ll have to check but…exciting!
