I left with him shouting. Next day his daughter phoned to say he had died in his sleep. I never told her I think I killed him with chess.
"We even charged our phones while out" Don't take financial advice from someone who thinks this is a smart move. It probably saved them £1 a year. Pure frugality fetish.

This government is like when dog owners see their dog jumping up at you and ask it nicely to stop. It doesn't work but it gives the impression they're doing something and maybe it's not really their fault even though it obviously is their fault because they're supposed to be in charge of the dog.
The most disgusting behaviour I’ve ever witnessed in public spaces was directed at Sadiq Khan by ‘anti-Ulez’ protesters, who of course received way more coverage, much of it friendly, than the scheme’s incredible success ever will.

The worst thing you can do in a supply crisis is universal subsidies. Want to protect the poor? We have a mechanism for that, cash transfers!
Prof. Ian Walker@ianwalker.bsky.social · 3mo agoSo much about this has me screaming into my motonormativity cushion. Why further subsidise all the wealthy people who drive? Why NOT subsidise the poorer people who don't drive?
If you care about co2 emissions you should be raising fuel duty and increasing taxes on domestic use of natural gas for heating and cooking. Electric cars, induction stoves and heat pumps are all prove technologies now and we should be happy to phase out fossil fuels via tax rises.

But even the revised top end estimate here is 3.4% of UK carbon emissions. There are far, far bigger priorities if we care about global warming.
Not so fun facts about uninsured drivers: they kill and maim a lot of people.
Another one who thinks the response to a global shortage of something which makes it more expensive is to subsidise people to buy more of it. Truly British politics is blessed with genius.
