I think age does matter. Not so much "charging" but some level of responsibility to the bills, bc more adults in your house = higher bills. In their 20s and trying to get on their feet? Maybe they just chip in on groceries or cover wifi. But if I had to move in with my mom, I'm paying bills.

I'm seeing people wonder why ICE is going after Charlotte. ICE has been at war with Charlotte's sheriff ever since he won in 2018. We'd covered this at Bolts back in the day; this quote is from that sheriff:

I refuse to watch 47 talk on camera if I can help it in anyway and this is why. When he lost in 2020 I was so relieved to not have that man reminding me how ignorant America is every day, and I still refuse to subject myself to it in real time.

Nikole Hannah-Jones wrote a piece about the fact that he dismantled 60 years of legislative achievement in 9 months. It’s going to take, not months, not years, not decades, but GENERATIONS to rebuild, restore, and evolve. I’m not sure if this Veruca Salt-ass populace has the stomach for that.

The hard part, it feels like, is getting people our age to see that we may not see all the progress in undoing this mess. Selflessness is not exactly an American trait.
I hope people understand that we're far past just setting shit 47 has knocked over back upright. This will be rebuilding: NEW legislation, new institutional knowledge, new case law even. This will take decades. Not 4 years, not 8.

The fear of emails leaking ain't got shit on the fear of getting a note taken up and read out loud in high school.

Back in the day, people sent shady sh+t via letters written in code carried under cover of night and handed off discreetly with instructions to burn them. The internet killed discretion in unseemly & criminal activity.

Naima Cochrane@stillnaima.bsky.social · 9mo agoThe three cueing system also ISN'T LOGICAL, because if you're teaching kids to look at the first letter of a word + photos + context and not LEARN the word itself, what happens as they progress to books without pictures?
I'd never heard of the three cues model before reading this report, but this explains SO MUCH about interactions on social media. Sooooooo much.
