Modo Energy has flagged that a beast is waking up on the network. Coalburn 1, a 500 MW / 1GWh battery is flicking on & off now as seen in the Balancing Mechanism, beating Thurrock at 300 MW into 2nd place. A 500 MW BESS is a huge tool for NESO to call on, but it won't hold the record for long.

OECD power generation from gas has seen a significant drop in the five months since LNG flows through the Strait of Hormuz were first disrupted. This has not resulted in an increase in coal-fired generation as solar and wind have covered demand growth and the fall in gas.

Another GB heatwave shaved a few kWhs/d off many day numbers (eff drops ~0.3%/° over 25°C) but overall clear days has still seen a great month for my PV Gen ~1.3MWh; exports 775 🔅 + 160 🔋 @ ~24p/kWh. Costs were imports 40kWh @ 21p & standing charge £18

At one level you have to sympathise with NESO taking over from the ESO and having to drive badly needed updates of its internal systems. It running to stand still & getting buffeted from all sides with its time/focus capacity being overstretched. But its not a good look regardless.
