The sky is different here, istg. Was curious how 17yo would react, this being her first time in a non-Ontario landscape. First day’s report: she feels kind of exposed and freaked out by it lol, note her dramatic collapse

Air quality. I grew up in the Los Angeles basin in the 70s and 80s and remember having to stay inside because the smog was so bad - Stage 2 smog alerts, they were called. Apparently they haven't had one of those since 1988. Haven't had a stage one smog alert since 2003.

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

air travel is one of those experiences that has gotten monotonically worse over my entire lifetime

question though: has *anything* in the last 40+ years genuinely gotten *better*?

like, there's *more* stuff, sure, but is any of it *better*?

I played a lot of stand up bass for the first time in years last night, and for the first time at an old time jam of ~15 people. I had forgotten the power that you have as a bass player in a big group like that. It's really like steering a boat. lt was so fun! Highly recommended.

Heading out on a 1 week tour with the quartet on Wednesday! Playing a few shows to and from the Live from the Rock Festival up near Thunder Bay. It's the longest trip the band has taken together, but I think it's going to be a lot of fun. I'm sure I'll take 0 pictures, as usual.

Hit the wrong button, destroyed an entire thread. Dang. Today's non-spoiler fact about HORNGARD is the dedication to Dr. Katherine Fischer Drew, chair of the History Department during my undergraduate years at Rice. Medievalist, translator of two of the post-Roman barbarian codes. Why her?
