Look at this beautiful frond we met at Science North today π
The sky is different here, istg. Was curious how 17yo would react, this being her first time in a non-Ontario landscape. First dayβs report: she feels kind of exposed and freaked out by it lol, note her dramatic collapse

Air quality. I grew up in the Los Angeles basin in the 70s and 80s and remember having to stay inside because the smog was so bad - Stage 2 smog alerts, they were called. Apparently they haven't had one of those since 1988. Haven't had a stage one smog alert since 2003.
Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.
i love this building that just got approved by the toronto government to start development thats an 11 story residential apartment building with retail space on the ground floor, with a buddhist temple on the very top

I played a lot of stand up bass for the first time in years last night, and for the first time at an old time jam of ~15 people. I had forgotten the power that you have as a bass player in a big group like that. It's really like steering a boat. lt was so fun! Highly recommended.
Please recommend me your favourite Marriage of Convenience books. I require The Yearning.
Heading out on a 1 week tour with the quartet on Wednesday! Playing a few shows to and from the Live from the Rock Festival up near Thunder Bay. It's the longest trip the band has taken together, but I think it's going to be a lot of fun. I'm sure I'll take 0 pictures, as usual.
I have, with my own eyes, watched my tax dollars in the form of missiles as they hit buildings inhabited by civilians. I'd much prefer subsidizing a grocery story I don't use.
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
Toronto has discovered Biidaasige Park. Packed tonight for on the way back from Cherry. Maximum city. More of this, I think, is needed.

#BookSky #WritingSky Just over two months from the BookDay of HORNGARD, my first book since the head injury that left me unable to write for years. Here's a look at the cover. Can a young man with only six years of memory possibly become a king? Even with Dragon's help? Oct 6.
Hit the wrong button, destroyed an entire thread. Dang. Today's non-spoiler fact about HORNGARD is the dedication to Dr. Katherine Fischer Drew, chair of the History Department during my undergraduate years at Rice. Medievalist, translator of two of the post-Roman barbarian codes. Why her?

This is why many of us were always skeptical of demand-side housing solutions. It is ultimately just an excuse to move the goalpost and build less housing.
Many said that we had to cut immigration so governments could "catch up" on housing. I tried to explain, based on my experience in housing advocacy, why I thought that was unlikely. Immigrants were just a scapegoat for governments who didn't prioritize new homes. I wish that I had been proven wrong.
Anyone interested in a last minute writing retreat? Aug 16-23 in Gravenhurst, ON, or Aug 31-Sept 8 in Flowers Cove Nfld. DM me for details.
