Why did the WHCD allow the shameful show to happen? asks @sulliview.bsky.social. "Part of the reason is that their corporate bosses wanted them to for reasons having to do with profits & other commercial interests." Indeed, media-commercialism is incompatible with a functioning Fourth Estate.

"Some of the most trenchant commentary came not from Big Journalism but from individual commentators..." Margaret's summary applies not just to "Trump's awful speech", but to the last decade of US politics. Especially if you include the growing [quantity and quality] independent media sector.

CBS’s coverage (which a lot of us were skeptical about) was appropriately skeptical. They spent a big chunk of time knocking down Trump’s absurd claims.
Acyn@acyn.bsky.social · 3w agoWarner on CBS: I was embarrassed that the president went before our country and networks like yours carried this as news as opposed to a rehash of falsehoods. It is incumbent upon you and any responsible journalist to pushback on this.
Fox News correspondent Aishah Hasnie: "Fox News has not seen that evidence yet, and is not in a position to evaluate the accuracy of the president’s statements and claims at this time." Yeah, Fox is definitely playing it VERY cautiously here due to the $787 million Dominion payout.
