Republican power grabs in Kansas and Missouri are going down in flames with 18-25% of votes reported so far. Missouri's Amendment 4 aimed to make citizen-initiated constitutional amendments practically impossible. Kansas' Amendment 1 was designed to flip the state Supreme Court to ban abortion
New: Missouri Secretary of State Hoskins, who dragged out his certification of a petition challenge to the state's new gerrymander until the very last day, now says the challenge is "insufficient." Not because there aren't enough signatures — there clearly are — but because it's "unconstitutional"
Hoskins choosing to do this today also makes it very likely that his office determined there are enough valid signatures and that can't be the way out.
I guess we’ll find out very soon
Any update from Hoskins on the referendum signatures? An underrated outcome for today is that the signatures are determined to meet the threshold, the maps used for the primary were invalid, and someone sues to redo the congressional primaries under the correct maps. www.kmbc.com/article/miss...

In ‘24 the GOP governor race was Kehoe/Ashcroft/Eigel. There aren’t really any competitive GOP primaries in the county this year. Starting to wonder if we may see a significant number of GOP voters pulling a Democratic ballot to vote in the MO-01 and County Executive races.
Ballot choice in St. Louis County in 2024 was 62.82% Democratic, 35.85% Republican. Republicans will turn out more tomorrow but as of 1pm today Democrats are leading by a stunning 73% to 21%. Democrats are ahead in every single district-council, senate, state house-even in 88, 89, 95, 110.
Is everyone aware of the General Motors streetcar conspiracy? In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.

I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.
It is funny that this person thinks “immigrants defended the union while native born whites sought to destroy it in the name of slavery” is an argument against immigrants being Americans. This is precisely the point, nothing about being born here makes you better bsky.app/profile/aphc...

These feel very Montreal to me. Duplexes and triplexes in Montreal often have stairs on the front exterior. It’s like that because of local building codes when they were built. Chicago doesn’t have those same codes, so, I wonder why they built them like this. www.atlasobscura.com/articles/mon...

The upcoming midterm elections are going to be contested amid a broken Voting Rights Act, "rigorously" invalidated campaign-finance laws, and federal election commissioners who can be fired for no reason. The only people who voted for this absurd legal regime are the unelected justices on the Court
I will once again remind folks that a very sizable chunk of what looks like Congress not doing anything to push back against the president is in fact a consequence of the Court disabling/destroying all the ways Congress has tried to push back.
