Even setting Trump's framing of South Africa aside here, it's important to note the questioner clearly states other refugees are facing "famine and war" and thus, of course, are facing imminent death. At the end of the day, Trump appears to be letting in mostly — if not *only* — Afrikaners.
REPORTER: Why are you creating an expedited path into the country for Afrikaners but not others? TRUMP: Because they're being killed. And we don't want to see people be killed ... it's a genocide that's taking place. Farmers are being killed. They happen to be white.

#Foreignaid is not the solution to all #development and #humanitarian challenges, BUT slashing an already depressingly low #aidbudget to 0.2% is hugely damaging and very disappointing from a #Labour government.
A statement from our CEO Moazzam Malik on the news that the government is cutting the UK aid budget to fund an increase in defence spending:
Really fascinating insights here. Recommend a listen for people interested in the consequences of the loss of #usaid funding and #alternatives to it.
🔊 The #USAID funding freeze highlights the worrying effects of aid dependency in #Haiti – one of its largest recipients. But in our new podcast, @obianyadike.bsky.social asks Isabelle Clérié: Is Haiti better off without aid?
Who is resilience for? What is the usefulness of calling refugees resilient? Should we avoid the term together? I've attempted to think through these questions in my article with Ethnos, out now and open access 👇 (1/4)
