Brooklyn streets should be safer and easier to get around by bus and bike. @cmcrystalhudson.bsky.social, @chiosse.bsky.social, @cmrestler.bsky.social, and @bkbpreynoso.bsky.social all agree: It's time to redesign Dekalb and Lafayette for people.

Last month we sent a letter to the @mayor.nyc.gov and @nyc-dot.bsky.social urging them to prioritize a people first redesign of Dekalb and Lafayette, providing faster buses, safe east/west bike routes, and safer intersections. Our local elected officials joined in signing.

For more on the history of this proposed network and DOT's delays, see this thread we posted last year. We're looking forward to finally seeing these improvements on our streets! bsky.app/profile/flat...

Our campaign, along with @tabk.bsky.social and CM Rita Joseph, sent a letter to @nyc-dot.bsky.social and the Mayor urging them to protect bicyclists and all users of the streets in our neighborhoods, calling out almost a decade of inaction from the city: flatbushstreetsforpeople.com/uploads/flat...

We're really disappointed to hear that the bike lane network in Community District 14, including protected bike lanes on Cortelyou and Dorchester Roads, will not be installed this year as DOT originally presented. We're hearing they're targeting installation for next year.

On Wednesday, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a box truck on Morgan Ave near Cooper Park. Members of the community are gathering tonight for an emergency action in response to this tragedy - both to honor the life lost and to call on the city to take urgent steps to make Morgan Ave safe.

The hearing for @cmjuliewon.bsky.social's Intro 1138 to make universal daylighting the law in NYC is one week away! I'm thrilled that my representative CM Hudson sponsors this bill — and I look forward to seeing her fight to get it across the finish line. NYC needs universal daylighting!

On Wednesday, the full @bkcb02 voted to recommend @nyc-dot.bsky.social and @CMCrystalHudson complete the 2-way protected bike lane on Ashland Pl! There is broad community support for this project, and we are happy cb2 took a strong stance urging the city to close the gap!

Text from Brooklyn Community Board 2 recommendation:

Recommendation to the Dept of Transportation and Council Member
Hudson to complete the final block of the Ashland Place bike lane.

The Committee previously reviewed the DOT’s 2022 plans for the bike
lane on Ashland Place, as well as the 2023 revision. We believe the 2022 plan should be revisited in order to improve bicycle, pedestrian, and vehicular safety at the SE corner of Ashland and Lafayette and the block between Lafayette > Hanson Place which connects across Flatbush and Atlantic to 4th Avenue.

We call on the city to complete the protected bike lane and pedestrian improvements on Ashland Place! We need the connectivity, walkability and sustainability improvements it would bring to Downtown Brooklyn and Fort Greene. Show your support here: tiny.cc/closethegap

A flyer titled "Close the Gap" with text "The City must complete the protected bike lane and pedestrian safety improvements promised on Ashland Place. We need connectivity, walkability, and sustainability in Downtown Brooklyn and Fort Greene."

We’re so close to having a completely protected bike route that runs from Sunset Park to the Manhattan Bridge. That’s a pretty big deal!

Close the Gap! On Sunday, TABK was out canvassing in support of completing the Ashland/Navy protected bike lane! We are calling on @nyc-dot.bsky.social to finish the last block of this project on Ashland Pl between Lafayette and Flatbush. Please sign our petition here: tiny.cc/closethegap #crashland
