actually crazy how much better this laptop runs on Ubuntu than it did on Win11. need to do some file management and maybe adjust the partitioning later but after just 1 day there hardly seems to be any reason to go back for most things. makes me want to switch the OS on more of my devices

fun way to instigate as a local is just asking people "what do you like to do in Uptown?" and when they name *any* place say "well, I'm not sure if that's *really* part of Uptown"

realized my laptop had biblical uptime (40 days 40 nights) so an early Patch Tuesday and a long rest is in order. I gotta get this thing off Win11 so every update doesn't feel like a gamble

you do not need to post your Ls. in fact i would advise resisting the impulse as much as possible. share your Ls with friends and family, post your dubs

since a PC upgrade is unaffordable I'm finally playing a lot of my backlog, but I'm spending just as long troubleshooting as playing. adding DLC to 3DS games, using a mod loader for Steam Deck, fixing broken audio on a PC game from 15 years ago...nothing "just works" but I'm learning and having fun!

my job's laptop upgrade policy changed from every 4 years to 5 just as mine approaches 4, so I went to argue with IT in person and show how slow mine is getting. did not expect the guy to just crack it open and swap in double the RAM for me. felt like watching a bank teller open a vault of diamonds.

we default to Kramarczuk's and never regret it but I really oughta try more stuff around Hen/Cen area, what's worth a look for a good value dinner before a movie? (ignoring chains)

An important missing piece of information on that transgender wage gap graph is that trans women quickly learn that they need to make themselves indispensable to their jobs to not get pushed out, so every cent of that 60¢ is earned with twice the labor of their cis colleagues

Southdale Center has been a pretty dead mall for years but we go to see movies pretty regularly and it's always disappointing to bus early, walk to a shop with advertised closing times of 7-8 PM, and they're all actually closed by 6. there's seriously nothing to do before going to the theater

when we moved this past spring, places like this ranked just above places slathered in "landlord white" paint...but they usually had much stricter policies forbidding repainting or any alterations. so many tours of apartments that felt like hospital lobbies we couldn't imagine living in. awful trend

No fuck off we're not calling this "Millennial grey" this shit was dictated completely by boomer retiree house flippers we absolutely had NO say in this

Millennial grey

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A kitchen with beige grey floors, drab walls, brushed steel appliances, and grey granite countertops.
Grey floors and furnishings are said to appeal to Millennial tastes.
Millennial grey refers to a desaturated colour scheme that is said to appeal to the interior design sensibilities of the Millennial Generation in the early 21st century.[1] Cultural historian Kassia St. Clair attributed its widespread adoption to a desire among Millennials for "a flexible, sensible choice that will last years, hide any stains, and can be adapted to different schemes."[1] Some have diagnosed Millennial grey as a reaction to the warm hues of the late 20th century.[2]

Millennial grey is polarising, particularly when used with imitation-wood-texture sheet vinyl flooring, which many describe as depressing, soulless, or corporate.[3][4] Although attributed to Millennials, the grey colour scheme is often chosen by house flippers, vacation rental owners, or other people who do not actually live in the greyed properties.[3] Thus, the occupant of the property—Millennial or not—has little say in its colour scheme, particularly when deployed for fixtures such as flooring.[4] The greying may have been driven, in part, by a desire to prepare properties for sale in a manner thought to be least offensive to the average buyer.[5] Given the housing crises gripping many countries in the early to mid-21st century, buyers and renters may feel they have no choice but to accept a property decked in Millennial grey.[4]

To the extent that Millennial grey is said to be enjoyed by Millennials, it is also said to be loathed by Generation Z.[1][2]

we got a better window AC unit so I can actually work from home and not need to go find somewhere with wifi downtown every day over 90, but as long as air quality stays this bad I'm basically stuck at home anyway...running 2 air purifiers and still feeling it in here. gonna be a rough electric bill.

barista changed the music in this coffee shop from a pretty generic pop playlist to Nightcall by Kavinsky and I'm not complaining but it sort of gave me vibes whiplash

there was a newspaper at the table where we got brunch so I read the Sunday comics page for the first time in a while and it kinda threw me to see 2 long-established strips making AI jokes while the rest recycle the same gags they've done for decades
