I am pro Iranian people. I stand with them against their own government’s repression AND against the imperial violence in the form of bombs dropped from the sky from Israel & the US who have already killed hundreds. I support neither imperialism or dictatorship. Sahar Delijani said it best:

I was born in an Iranian prison. My parents were held in their jails. My uncles lie in their mass graves.
Nothing you can tell me about the crimes of the Iranian regime that I haven't lived in blood and bone.
That doesn't mean I want my people bombed, maimed, killed, their homes in ruins.
If your vision of liberation comes only through the destruction of innocent lives, then it's not freedom you're after.
Sahar Delijani, Iranian author

I have a piece out today that explores what socialist mayors like Zohran and Katie Wilson can do to fight the tech oligarchy and build a technological alternative at the municipal level. I call it the “digital sewer socialist stack” jacobin.com/2025/12/digi...

Digital Sewer Socialism

With the rise of AI slop and overall “enshittification,” it is increasingly the case that the internet is failing to address the public’s needs. What we need is sewer socialism for the digital realm —...

One of the most traditional weeklies in Brazil publishes a ChatGPT-generated story. Last paragraph proves it (typical ChatGPT next step question). Not the best way to complain about platforms and regain 'trust in media', this panacea that will solve all of our problems...

The takeaway: 👉 Accommodating the radical right on immigration doesn’t win back voters. 👉 It alienates the progressive base. 👉 And it raises the salience of the very issue the radical right owns. In short: it’s electoral self-harm.

It’s worth reminding ourselves that a lot of the AI hype about how “everyone is using it now” is just manufacturing consent. A lot of people aren’t using AI. A lot of people started using it because they feel cultural pressure, but they would happily walk away from it.

If the money spent on AI edtech could go toward schools instead, it would make education more accessible to all children, critics argue. “But it’s not sexy to say, ‘We need more teachers.’ It’s not sexy to say, ‘Hey, we need better buildings.’ What is sexy and exciting are these ‘amazing’ tools”

Kenya’s solution to teacher shortage: Embrace AI

Kenyan teachers and edtech companies say AI tools help save time, but without widespread internet connectivity, the impact is uneven.

These fines signal the EC is willing to enforce EU laws despite US pressure. But are they enough? They fall far short of the 10% annual turnover mark & come over a year after the law took effect. For BigTech, this is just a small cost of doing highly profitable business in the EU shorturl.at/mg58S

EU fines Apple €500M and Meta €200M for breaking Europe’s digital rules

The highly anticipated penalties are the first to be issued under the bloc’s Digital Markets Act.

People spend a lot of time wondering why the left is worse at using independent media to control the national narrative. A useful exercise is to ask why the left is also worse at selling snake oil and pyramid schemes, because I think the reasons are basically exactly the same.

The response to the predicted crash of the AI sector often is that "every crash leaves something useful behind" and that this time it will be models. I don't think that is the case. AI models age like milk and the infrastructures left behind won't be ones that are helpful for democratic societies.

These are not the same

After sharing Ed Zitron’s latest piece called “OpenAI Is A Systemic Risk To The Tech Industry” I got a few responses arguing in a similar way: People agree that “AI” and especially “generative AI” is a massive bubble that does not really make much sense – if you imply rational decision making. Training the models, […]

What white America is now fighting for is not due process, it is fighting so that the racialised borders of unconstitutionality and state abuse stay where they are. Until it realises this, it may defeat Trump in 4 years, but it wont defeat Trumpism

The Israeli entrepreneur Shalev Hulio gained notoriety for designing Pegasus, the spyware used by governments to hack journalists and dissidents. Today, he is selling a new AI cyber security tool to European states and corporations. His secret asset? Austria’s former leader Sebastian Kurz. [Thread]
