The only message they sent was they care more about making Dems lose than stopping Trump and the GOP, and they're too far up their own butts to ever be reliable coalition partners. That's why Dems tack to the center in all but the bluest areas. That's where the gettable habitual voters are. /end

NY Tmes exec editor Joe Kahn said in 2024 that the issue of democracy's survival was not a top priority in his newsroom's coverage. Now Trump is sending federal agents to NYT reporters' homes to deliver subpoenas over coverage he doesn't like. I wonder if democracy is a priority for Joe now.

The Trump regime issued subpoenas to NY Times journalists over their reporting on Trump’s new Qatari-donated Air Force One. NYT called the subpoenas “an extraordinary escalation in Trump’s efforts to threaten and intimidate independent news organizations.” The dictator Trump hates the free press.

I just saw a guy proclaim his support for Platner by saying he’s a dad to three girls and would vote for him anyways if he could. Then he posted a picture of his tiny daughters for good measure. Really awesome stuff on the internet today

platner's playbook of using the language of liberatory struggle to imply that he is the victim of a conspiracy (perhaps by "zionists") is sickeningly familiar to anyone who has ever had to deal with the awful, miserable, drawn out process of removing an abuser from a radical or liberatory space.

I. Hyde Amendment Motion Discussion The Hyde Amendment motions are not ripe for decision and may never be. The United States does not intend to contest defendants’ entitlement to reasonable attorneys’ fees and costs in this matter as permitted by statute. (To be clear, the United States’ litigation decision not to challenge the defendant’s entitlement to fees, like in any typical settlement, does not concede that the United States has acted or done anything to warrant those fees.) The parties are currently attempting to work out the amount of recoverable fees and expenses. This court should take defendants’ Hyde Amendment motions under advisement while the parties attempt to amicably resolve this civil issue in good faith. The United States received the last of the former defendants’ fee submissions the day before this response was being filed, so the parties are now in a position to negotiate. II. Discovery Discovery related to defendants’ Hyde Amendment motions is not warranted under the circumstances of this case nor under applicable law. Defendants sought discovery, in their own words, to give them the “opportunity to demonstrate the bad faith, vexatious, and/or frivolous nature of this misguided prosecution.” Dkt. 206. But they will not be required to make that showing, so there is no reason or basis under the statute or otherwise to conduct that discovery.

Speaking as just one guy who sues the government a lot: This basically does not happen. It is a transparent effort to shut down further inquiry by conceding relief. What they are seeking to cover up must be unspeakably bad.

I can't clock every predator -- no-one can -- but I have gotten this specific type of guy up in my face often enough to know him. And the red flags weren't subtle little things. The Big Allegations didn't come out of nowhere. They came after months of other, ignored allegations. No-one LISTENS.

I have edited a lot of sexual-assault-accusation articles, and this one easily clears every veracity check: contemporaneous emails with her therapist, a boyfriend who knew, a woman she warned—all before Platner ran for office. Good on Politico for nailing it, and on Jenny Racicot for speaking up.
