Locking up librarians and booksellers in AR. Locking up women who travel out of state for healthcare in TX. Locking up people for being brown in pretty much every state. Anyone seeing a pattern here? And don't forget, due process is only available if you can afford it.

We've been quiet for a while, as things were in a holding pattern in the state. Unfortunately, today that ended. Librarians in Arkansas are now beholden to Act 372, one of the worst library laws to ever hit the books. To read today's ruling: www.nwahomepage.com/news/state-n...
Federal appeals court rules Arkansas law concerning children’s access to ‘obscene’ library books can take effect
An Arkansas law that would prohibit minors from accessing materials that are considered “obscene” will be allowed to take effect following a federal judge’s ruling.

Every single journalist at that event is a failure. Every news org that supports that event is a fascist-enabling institution that's putting itself and all of us in danger. Scroll for a list of starter packs of ACTUAL journalists worth following.

If you want to know why I'm so good at this book ban work - it's amazing authors and illustrators and a bunch of some of the most brilliant young people who teach me everyday how to be smarter and have a deep moral clarity. You want me to sing their praises - "young staffers" outstanding.
Iowa folks, this will feature Jason Reynolds, Angie Thomas, Renée Watson, and Nikole Hannah-Jones. Go go go go go and bring as many young people as you can–what an incredible opportunity out of a *horrific* censorship situation in the state. (paywall bypass if needed: archive.ph/MEUNy)

*****LAST CALL******* I won't lie: there are very few responses this year. Most are my own. I think that tells way more than intended.
If you're seeing Pride censorship in U.S. libraries–whether it's from inside the library or from pressure outside–please report it for the annual roundup. You can be anonymous. There are already *several* this year. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Just thinking back about how a year ago, 10,000+ people signed up with @runforsomething.net to run for office in the two weeks after Mamdani won, inspired by the belief that someone who loves the place they want to lead and believes it can & must be better deserves a seat at the table.
Just gonna say: It’s not too early to consider running for office in 2027 or 2028. Don’t “wait your turn” — it IS your turn. runforwhat.net

Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito are full of shit in their dissents in the birthright citizenship case. Give me two minutes, and I'll explain why.
Second apparently this was a close case for this Court. As it stands the decision is 6-3. In 1898 the Court’s decision protecting birthright citizenship, Won Kim Ark v. U.S., was 6-2. That means this SCOTUS is either on par w/or to the right of the 1898 Court - the same SCOTUS that decided Plessy!
If the Supreme Court can reverse a 95 year-old ruling for a country that is only 250 years old, I need you to UNDERSTAND this country still has no idea what it is or what it stands for other than it’s constant push-and-pull to oppress Black people and eliminate Native people.
