Be kind. I'm most active on @box464@mastodon.social.

Probably worth sharing this again — we're building the open, non-enshittified Substack on atproto & getting *really close* just need to get paid memberships in! We need your help — who do you know who's on Substack, but is *also* active here & might like to publish somewhere more…atmospheric??

An open letter to Substack creators

Lab Notes 007: a note to those who find Substack useful, but use the platform reluctantly; an invitation to join us in publishing on a more open network.

Migration complete! Moved from my own hosted PDS server to @transrights.northsky.social with only a minor hiccup (my bad). If it helps someone - my SMTP server was failing, the migration process couldn't send a confirmation code to complete the process. Fixed the SMTP issues and it was easy breezy.

For the 142 that are following me... First, thank you! Second, I was laid off last week. I'd appreciate if you can share with your followers that I'm now open to opportunities and help increase my follower count. More information about me: gerardkcohen.me/hire-me.html Thanks, all 142 of you!

We 💙 links! Starting this week, we've made it even easier for newsrooms and more to track how much traffic Bluesky is sending to their sites. For those setting up analytics, Bluesky's referrer is go.bsky.app.

I want to create an incubator that funds atproto/bluesky experimental projects to the tune of $5k-$10k dev grants. I am sorely tempted to call it “Chemtrails”, because it seeds the ATmosphere Hit me with your best ideas!

If you’re in town around SXSW, check out Fediverse House, a 2-day event hosted by Flipboard and Surf. Amazing lineup of folks including Mike McCue, Molly White, Evan Prodromou, and Paul Frazee. I’ll also be giving a short presentation during the developer meetup about Micro.blog and the fediverse.

Micro Camp is… tomorrow! 🤯 It’s extra micro this year, so if you blink you might miss it. Hope everyone can join us for a keynote conversation with Christina Warren and then the State of Micro.blog, announcing a couple new features, and Q&A. Starts 11:45am Pacific time.

Well, I didn’t plan it, but word got out anyway, and people discovered that the fed.brid.gy Bluesky/fediverse bridge quietly went online a bit ago. Over 1200 accounts have already turned it on so far and bridged themselves one direction or the other. It’s great to see so much early interest!

Re-introducing Bridgy Fed

Hi! I’m Ryan. I’ve been building social network bridges and related tools for over 12 years, including Bridgy, which connects personal web sites and blogs to centralized social networks…

Oh my God! Pierro and I aren't watching the #Oscars because we don't get cable, but we just received word that he won the award for Stinkiest Poop?! 😲 As you can see, he is absolutely floored - we were NOT expecting this!! He says he is so honored, and thank you to the Academy 🥹

A smol dachshund-mix sitting next to an Oscars statue and looking quite startled.

👋 Hello to the 260+ self-hosters that have joined the network over the last week! (Notice how nothing has changed about the in-app experience? 😎) Developers, in case you missed it, we enabled federation for self-hosters last week. Read this guide to learn how to set up your own server!

Early Access Federation for Self-Hosters | Bluesky

For a high-level introduction to data federation, as well as a comparison to other federated social protocols, check out the Bluesky blog.
