It's really telling how, to Smith, Sophie Cunningham speaking out against trans women in sports when there are no trans women in the WNBA is worthy of praise, but Cheryl Reeve wearing a shirt that says "trans kids belong" means she "chose to inject herself into a controversy."

Did he take criticism from further left though? It seems like valid criticism was levied at NYT, disappointment was expressed with Jennings, and he brushed the whole thing off as "one bad take."

I'm always dumbfounded when people are like "a trans player could take away a scholarship and an opportunity for a cis girl to go to college" because, basing educational opportunity on how good someone is at a game seems like the bigger problem to me.

The Indiana Fever have a traveling band of anti-trans agitators whose intention is to terrorize trans women & intimidate Black & queer women & WNBA goers. They do so in the name of a current player. The WNBA is protecting the agitators & punishing uprisers. I won’t watch a single Fever game.

The WNBA has never had a trans woman play in the league’s 30-year history and now the right and other anti-trans activists are hammering the league over something that has never been an issue, proving once again it isn’t about protection but exhibiting cruelty toward trans people.
