ESA/AURA Astronomer at STScI, working on exoplanet atmospheric characterization, MIRI, and time-series observations. Posts are my own and do not necessarily reflect the views of STScI, ESA, or AURA. Passionate about hiking, camping, and canoeing. He/him

New factoid shared at a meeting here at Space Telescope: #JWST's guiding is so stable that it's like flying a laser pointer on a drone in Washington DC, and pointing it perfectly at a dime (like a UK 5p coin) in San Francisco ~4000 km away.

Looking at the AAS jobregister lately, it seemed to me that there are less positions available in all categories than in previous years. Wanting to quantify, I used the wayback machine to check on the number of postings in the January-March window and it is quite depressing.

A Table showing the number of positions posted at AAS job-registed for various categories.

Hey, artists, in case you were wondering if your work matters: I'm a scientist working on climate change and biodiversity, and I would not be who I am today without The Lorax, The Secret of NIMH, Watership Down, The Last Unicorn, and The X-Files. I know I'm not alone. Thank you for all you do.

Literally moments away from being safely transported to Maryland on a big auto transport truck, our car got rear ended while stationary... Thankfully still drivable and en route to Maryland, but really not what we were hoping for today... 🚗 💥 🚗
