As a reminder, in 2020, more than 60 people accused Warren Ellis of grooming and sexual impropriety, coming together to create the website somanyofus.com. In its most recent update, in 2023, the site posted: "To the best of our knowledge, Warren Ellis took none of the steps we hoped he would."

I learned a LOT about people from wandering around on the internet (finding out a couple of favorite webcomic creators were trans was so good for me!) but it’s weird when you’re aware of how many Nazis are on the internet. They were probably there back then, too, but I didn’t know about it.

this isn't very popular to say, but for me personally, it was good that i had unrestricted internet access when i was a minor. i was aware of what i was doing and enjoyed it. i don't look back on it and go "well that was a mistake", i look back on it and wish i could do it for the first time again

Got jumpscared by I guy I’ve known since second grade getting quoted in this article 🤣 But more seriously, it really grinds my gears that the Bohemian Club gets the noisy flight path rolled back but actual residents can’t?? The new flight paths have been irritating local residents since the change.

"Can I eat that?" A juvenile Red-tailed Hawk checks out a fungus. The fungus is reddish brownish; maybe it's close enough to the color of a chipmunk and that's where the intrigue came in? The hawk did eventually go for a bite, but it was only one bite and then the hawk lost all interest.

As the Spokane community continues to face the devastating impacts of local wildfires, you can help your neighbors. We will continue to update this thread with more opportunities to help!

'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

Related to my last repost: I LOATHED The Outsiders when it was assigned in 7th grade. Picked it up out of curiosity when one of my siblings read it for school ~7 years later and was shocked because reading it as a high schooler the book was actually amazing!

I swear to God, part of the problem of literacy is that we make kids read SO MANY books like this. Of course they’re going to associate reading with misery! We put them in a Skinner box and shock them when they read, what did people THINK would happen?

Having ranted about school curriculum books, I’ve just seen my son’s summer reading list, and all I can say is “I was right”. A more depressing collection would be tricky to assemble. Are we actively trying to convey to kids the idea that reading is dismal and arduous?

That's what taxes are, man. That's the definition of taxes. "You are subsidizing things you might never use" man shut the fuck up. My taxes currently subsidize like oil company exec private jets, you think I'm upset at low-income people eating inexpensive bananas?

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

Here’s the key takeaway from our report: Epstein couldn’t have carried out his trafficking and criminal activity without the help of the highest ranking employees and executives at the most powerful banks in the world. Wall Street is complicit in Epstein’s crimes from top to bottom.

Bombshell new report out from my investigators this morning spanning our four year investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s financial records. This report shows exactly how Wall Street protected Epstein and enabled his sex trafficking for decades. Mega thread following with some key points:

This trash panda and his cohort of anarchists broke into a storage bin, ate all the peanuts and sunflower seeds we put in our birdfeeders, left the shells everywhere, and tore apart an unused brick of coconut coir, but I can’t bring myself to be upset about it because look, so cute, I love them

Extreme heat continues across the Southwest. Temps may top 120. The heat may expand across the West and south-central US into mid-month. Air quality alerts & red flag warnings are also in place across portions of the West. Exposure to both smoke & heat can be a greater health risk than either alone.

Compounding Hazards: Heat and Wildfires. Exposure to both smoke and extreme heat at the same time can pose a much greater health risk than either one alone. Heat and Smoke Safety Tips: (1) stay indoors: remain in cool, filtered air; (2) limit activity: plan necessary tasks for cooler, cleaner times; (3) hydrate: drink water frequently; (4) mask up: use a well-fitting N95 outdoors; (5) monitor health: if feeling unwell, move indoors and seek help.
