Jeff Lazarus@jlazarus.bsky.social · 2d agoIn the modern job market it’s not uncommon to have job searches that produce dozens of qualified candidates and several who are tenurable on the publications they’ve placed before even finishing their PhD. It’s all but impossible to create an “objective” process to select among them.
If you think you were a token in academia, just wait until you figure out why you are on the anti-woke beat at The Atlantic.

Got a good job down at the Data Center. I work on the line, and it's hard work but it's honest and the wage is fair; my family and I are grateful for it. I rivet the word "absolutely" onto the little apologies that chatbots do when they misunderstand a prompt.

I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone mention the striking parallels between Spain's two championship games: both won 1-0 on goals in the 2nd period of extra time, both against thuggish opponents who finished with only 10 men. Amazing defenses, too - 2010 Spain gave up no goals in the knockout round!

Recently, FamilySearch digitized and uploaded tons of microfilmed records, including many from 18th-century Massachsuetts. They're using some sort of AI to transcribe/summarize the handwritten documents. I've noticed that the AI strips out references to race and enslavement in 18thc documents.
Yeah, I think we're going to need every ounce of political pull we can muster to get even the tiniest bit of the regulatory oversight that industry desperately needs.

I pay much more attention to and take more seriously AI optimist claims I see on here.
When someone posts something that looks like this. With airspace between every sentence to emphasize profundity. Even in sentence fragments. Because of concision. Which is the most powerful weapon we have. The likelier it is that you are reading some terrible overshared AI-generated crap.
